Primary Purpose:
To provide students with a high-quality English Language Arts education through effective instruction that builds literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills. The ELA teacher will create a learning environment that fosters academic achievement, student engagement, and social-emotional growth in alignment with Sheldon ISD's curriculum standards and district goals.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate ELA 4 8 certification
  • ESL certification preferred or willingness to obtain within one year

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of middle school ELA TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills)
  • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies, differentiation, and student data analysis
  • Ability to manage a classroom and build positive relationships with students
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies:
  • Develop and deliver engaging ELA lessons aligned to TEKS and district scope and sequence
  • Utilize best practices for reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and speaking/listening instruction
  • Incorporate the use of technology, digital tools, and interactive resources to enhance learning
  • Differentiate instruction based on student needs, including GT, ESL, Special Education, and at-risk learners

Classroom Management:
  • Create a safe, positive, and structured classroom environment conducive to learning
  • Implement effective classroom routines and behavioral expectations
  • Use proactive strategies and restorative practices to manage discipline and student engagement

Assessment and Data:
  • Administer and analyze formative and summative assessments to track student progress
  • Use data to adjust instruction and provide targeted interventions or enrichment
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and communication with parents/guardians

Collaboration and Professionalism:
  • Participate in PLCs (Professional Learning Communities), team meetings, and campus initiatives
  • Collaborate with colleagues, instructional coaches, and support staff to improve student outcomes
  • Attend required training, staff development, and district professional learning
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and uphold district policies

Working Conditions:
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
  • Frequent standing, walking, and reaching
  • Light lifting of instructional materials and classroom equipment

*Salary is commensurate with experience
*Minimum Salary $66,000 for fully certified teachers
*Works 187 Day Calendar
*Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
Sheldon ISD will accept applications for this position through May 31, 2026. After this date, applications will continue to be accepted in the event a suitable candidate is not identified.
