The City of Torrance is currently taking applications for On-Call/Part-Time Interactive Communications Officers!
The City Manager's Office is seeking proactive, computer savvy candidates for the Interactive Communications Officers (ICO) positions. Under the leadership of the Office of Cable and Community Relations, Interactive Communications Officers disseminate time sensitive information to the public and coordinate interactive communications for the City of Torrance.
Interactive Communications Officers distribute information to the community during a disaster or an emergency; maintain the Disaster Telephone Hotline; and provide street and road closure messaging on CitiSOUNDS AM 1620 radio. ICO's also post, monitor, and create content for the City's official website and social media; create graphic design elements for social media and print; supports accessibility compliance; provide continuous social media coverage for engagement; creates and edits eNewsletters; serve as account managers for all departments for interactive communications; and perform related work as required.
HOURS:
These are on-call, part-time shifts, as needed positions that will be used to provide coverage when full-time staff are unavailable. Hours can range from 2 to 12 hours during a 24-hour period. There are no guaranteed hours. Variable work hours include early-mornings, afternoons, evenings, and late-night shifts. Shifts may also include weekends and holidays. Normal shifts are 12 hours (8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m.). When reporting for work, ICO's must remain on the premises at all times including their paid lunch hour.
QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and four (4) years of highly responsible executive support and/or administrative work in a public agency.
Or...
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience such as an Associate's degree in Public or Business Administration or a related field and two (2) years of related experience.
Or...
A Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field.
License and/or Certificates:
Must possess and maintain an appropriate valid California driver's license.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Competency in:
  • Outstanding copywriting, social media, or video production skills;
  • Ability to work effectively without oversight;
  • Confident written and verbal communication skills;
  • Superb organizational and time-management abilities;
  • High degree of computer literacy;
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities in:
  • Significant experience creating high-quality marketing content;
  • Capable of managing multiple competing priorities;
  • Comprehensive understanding of impactful marketing tactics;
  • Experience developing visual designs and marketing materials.
