Job description

The Opportunity

Optiom Inc. is a specialty insurance Managing General Agency (MGA) - and a wholly owned subsidiary of Aviva Canada - delivering vehicle replacement protection through a national network of 330+ dealerships and 900+ broker offices. We're growing fast, modernizing our platforms, and integrating deeper into Aviva Canada's technology ecosystem. To do that right, we need someone who can bring clarity to complexity.

The Technical Integrations Manager is the person who knows how our systems connect, where the risks live, and how to build what comes next on a foundation that will last. This role owns integration strategy, systems analysis, technical documentation, and the reverse engineering of existing applications across all three Optiom brands - sitting at the intersection of architecture, delivery, and technical leadership.

If you're energized by structured discovery, comfortable navigating legacy environments, and skilled at turning complex system behavior into actionable direction, this one's worth a close look.

What You'll Own

Integration Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and govern the standards, patterns, and documentation practices for software integrations across APIs, file-based interfaces, middleware, and vendor-supported connections
  • Evaluate integration options and contribute to roadmap planning by identifying sequencing dependencies and technical constraints
  • Champion maintainable, scalable solutions over short-term workarounds

Systems Analysis & Discovery

  • Reverse engineer existing software, workflows, and business logic - especially in environments with incomplete or no documentation
  • Map current-state data flows, dependencies, and system interactions across policy administration, CRM, premium financing, and broker/dealer portals
  • Surface undocumented risks, hidden dependencies, and process gaps that affect future-state design

Documentation & Technical Readiness

  • Produce and maintain integration documentation: interface inventories, data flow maps, dependency maps, and current-state architecture artifacts
  • Translate technical findings into actionable requirements and solution inputs for delivery teams
  • Reduce reliance on tribal knowledge through disciplined documentation practices

Delivery Collaboration

  • Partner with development teams, internal stakeholders, and external vendors to align on integration requirements, responsibilities, and testing approaches
  • Support incident and problem analysis where integration behavior or cross-platform dependencies are contributing factors
  • Provide technical leadership on integration-related priorities across the organization

What You Bring

Required

  • 5+ years of direct experience in software development, systems analysis, technical integration, solution design, or application architecture
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing, documenting, and reverse engineering software integrations and system dependencies
  • Hands-on experience with APIs, file-based integrations, data mapping, and application interoperability patterns
  • Proven ability to work in environments with legacy systems, incomplete documentation, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline - or equivalent demonstrable experience

Bonus Points For

  • Experience in insurance, financial services, or another regulated environment
  • Background in legacy modernization, platform replacement, or application rationalization initiatives
  • Familiarity with middleware, ETL, event-driven architecture, or enterprise integration patterns
  • Experience creating architecture diagrams, process maps, and system interaction models
  • Experience managing vendors or coordinating cross-functional delivery participants

What We Offer

  • Base salary +Performance bonus
  • Comprehensive benefits: medical, dental, vision, EAP
  • 3 weeks' vacation to start, increasing with tenure
  • Hybrid work model based in Calgary - flexibility with structure
  • Employer-supported professional development
  • Access to Aviva Canada's technology ecosystem and enterprise resources
  • High-impact mandate at the centre of Optiom's technology modernization - not a maintenance role

Who We Are

Optiom Inc. is a specialty MGA backed by one of Canada's largest insurers, Aviva Canada. We operate under three brands - Optiom, O2 Insurance Services, and Bamboo Premium Financing - and serve Canadians through a national network of dealership and broker partners. We're in an active period of organizational growth and technology transformation, and the people we're bringing in now will shape what we look like for years to come.

Driven by Aviva.
