Job Summary

The SAP Integration Engineering Team Lead is responsible for the architecture, design, and delivery of enterprise integration solutions across SAP Cloud Integration and SAP BTP services. This role provides technical leadership for complex integrations, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, high-performing, and aligned with enterprise standards. In addition to hands-on development and oversight, the role leads integration best practices, operational stability, and issue resolution. The position also provides day-to-day technical leadership to the engineering team, supporting mentoring, performance development, workload planning, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver reliable, business-aligned integration solutions

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Technical Leadership
  • Leads architecture, design, and development decisions for SAP Cloud Integration solutions.
  • Provides technical guidance and oversight for complex integrations and enterprise patterns.
  • Creates and updates message mappings or data transformations using SAP Cloud Integration.
  • Oversees integration design using RESTful APIs, SOAP, JSON, XML, XSLT, and related technologies.
  • Ensures integration solutions follow enterprise architecture, security, and performance standards.
  • Creates and manages integrations between SAP Cloud Integration and SAP BTP services such as SAP API Management, Event Mesh, and related services.
  • Reviews designs and code to ensure quality, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Leads root-cause analysis and resolution for complex integration issues.
  • Ensures monitoring, operational stability, availability, and security of integrations.
  • Applies SDLC methodologies and promotes engineering best practices.
  • Team Leadership & People Development
  • Provides day-to-day technical leadership and direction for the SAP Cloud Integration engineering team.
  • Conducts regular 1:1 meetings with team members to support development, engagement, and alignment.
  • Owns the performance reviews, goal setting, and ongoing performance feedback.
  • Mentors engineers through coaching, knowledge sharing, and career development.
  • Helps onboard new team members and promotes engineering standards and team culture.
  • Supports technical coordination of work across the team to ensure alignment with architectural standards and delivery goals.
  • Identifies skill gaps and recommends training or development opportunities.
  • Delivery & Collaboration
  • Collaborates with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions.
  • Acts as a consultant to employee owners and customers regarding integration strategies and onboarding.
  • Identifies and mitigates risks related to architecture, performance, security, and continuity.
  • Ensures business continuity and disaster recovery documentation is maintained.
  • Leads collaboration with contractors and external partners as needed.
  • Non-essential Functions
  • Responds to IT Helpdesk incidents where appropriate and performs off-hours support as necessary.
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering organization.
  • Promotes and maintains the identity and reputation of Border States while ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager or designate.
Qualifications

Required

  • 4-year STEM degree, Advanced Degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience.
  • 3+ years working with SAP Cloud Integration.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership or mentoring experience.
  • Advanced experience with SOAP and/or RESTful API development and design.
  • Strong experience with XML, XSD, XPath, and XSLT.
  • Experience designing and developing within tiered applications and architectures.
  • Experience with unit and integration testing.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

Preferred

  • Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams.
  • Experience with SAP BTP services such as API Management and Event Mesh.
  • Knowledge of architecture design patterns and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture paradigms.
  • Familiarity with SAP technologies (ECC/S4, ABAP, IDoc, RFC).
  • Experience integrating SAP with systems such as Salesforce, AWS, and Azure.
  • Familiarity with cXML and/or PIDX.
  • Experience with messaging systems (JMS, ActiveMQ, MSMQ).
