Job description

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30AM - 4:00PM

LOCATION: 2617 East Ave, Rochester, NY 14610 ** This location is NOT on a bus line.  

Students at East Avenue range in age from 16 to at most 22yrs old.  They work every day to develop their independent and work skills as the work towards graduation.  Students engage in activities in the school building as well as in our local community. 

Extended School Year (July 6 - Aug 21) and Regular School Year opportunities available!

Salary Range: $17.34 - $21.84 per hour 

Pay within this range is based on experience and education

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise students throughout the school day while implementing assigned individualized educational and therapeutic programs both inside and outside the classroom (therapeutic pool program, specially designed physical education, etc.)
  • Engage in any necessary lifting, moving and/or positioning tasks for students
  • Facilitate improved gross motor, fine motor and range of motion skills
  • Promote and facilitate students’ self-care and other Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
  • Assist students with toileting, dressing and eating as needed including modeling appropriate behavior and using therapeutic equipment and/or feeding techniques
  • Provide behavioral support, including implementing agency approved emergency physical interventions
  • Help maintain a positive, safe and healthy educational environment, addressing students; health, medical and safety needs
  • Interact with students in an age-appropriate manner, respecting their privacy, dignity, and confidentiality
  • Demonstrate initiative and effectively engage with students during transition
  • Handle and use student equipment safely and appropriately
  • Assist with maintaining and caring for the classroom, equipment, materials and activity areas
  • Observe and record students’ performance and behaviors, sharing relevant information with the classroom teacher
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with classroom and professional team members while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism
  • Help prepare classroom projects and materials, including setup and cleanup
  • Assist the students with individual and small group activities
  • Respectfully follow direction from Teachers, Teacher Assistants, clinicians, supervisors, or designees
  • Interact politely and professionally with parents, caregivers, and other visitors
  • All other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English including interpreting documents such as safety rules and policy and procedure manuals
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
