General Statement of Duties
The Forsyth County Department of Behavioral Health is currently looking for Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) Paramedic. The MIH paramedic role is to address the urgent and emergent behavioral health needs of the community. This includes matters surrounding mental health and substance use disorder, including high utilizer callers as related to this focus. This position will utilize their paramedic scope and specialized training to provide a whole person approach to care.
Distinguishing Features
As a Mobile Integrated Health Community Paramedic, you must attend to the physical and emotional needs and well being of the patient and when appropriate, the family/significant others. Responsibilities include patient care which incorporates assessment, stabilization and intervention skills working under standards and protocols approved by the Forsyth County ES Director and as established by the North Carolina State Office of EMS. The MIHP provides care and outlines resources while promoting safety and efficiency of transport operations. The MIHP performs under the direct supervision of the Medical Control Physician, either by continuous radio contact or direct consultation. The MIHP uses written protocols approved by the Medical Directors of both Forsyth County ES and may require independent judgment if immediate contact with Medical Control is unavailable. A team approach is necessary when working with outside resources such physician care teams as well as other public services. The team is to work in a collaborative effort with the physician care team as well as other medical professionals. The MIHP must maintain necessary certifications/licensures, skills, continuing education and complete competency checks as required.
Minimum Education and Experience
High School diploma or GED and three years of pre-hospital 911 paramedic experience; or an associates degree or above in a related field with two years 911 paramedic experience.
Must possess an NC EMT - Paramedic Certification.
Certifications in CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent required. PHTLS, BTLS, ITLS or equivalent Trauma Management Course required.
Valid driver's license required. Must maintain a specific license such as a driver's license in good standing, without a lapse or loss of a privilege to drive in compliance with North Carolina law, and in compliance with applicable DOT standards for commercial motor vehicle drivers if required to perform the duties assigned to the position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide a patient medical assessment (including history and examination) and obtain vital signs in order to screen for immediate life threats.
Provide assessment and evaluation and non-emergent care to chronically ill patients and arrange referrals.
Provide prevention and education to reduce unscheduled acute care event or 911 call.
Provide patient navigation by directing patient to the appropriate service.
Provide appropriate documentation of the delivery of care.
Attend continuing education requirements for emergency and non-emergency care to the sick and injured.
Clean and sanitize equipment, supplies, inventory and restock as needed.
When applicable, treat emergent life threats and utilize the EMS (emergency medical services) system for transport and ongoing care.
Assess for behavioral health crisis and obtain a mental health assessment
Assess for substance use and use disorder potential
Develop unique patient care plans based on specific findings with intent to provide specialized care and when appropriate, alternative destinations than emergency departments.
Complete needs assessment and obtain consent for treatment.
Develop connections to resources to address identified needs.
Provide follow-up assessments and treatment based on care plan.
Facilitate patient handoff to Peer Support Specialist and/or other providers of care.
