Job description

Job Summary
This is a temporary position with the possibility of permanent hire.
The Patient Allocation Coordinator coordinates all patient bed assignments. The Patient Allocation Coordinator monitors admissions in the Emergency departments within Mohawk Valley Health System and assigns the admission bed location. Also assigns internal transfer bed assignments and facilitates patient intake from outside facilities for all services offered within Mohawk Valley Health System. The Patient Allocation Coordinator, in coordination with Case Management, will assist in arranging appropriate discharge transportation.
Core Job Responsibilities
  • Handles bed assignments for all internal and external admissions.
  • Monitors real-time bed availability across all hospital units.
  • Arranges accepting physician for transfers from outside facilities.
  • Collaborates and communicates patient disposition details and requirements across multiple disciplinary departments.
  • Supports emergency preparedness by ensuring rapid bed allocation during high demand situations.
  • Adheres to the rules and regulations set forth by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act including but not limited to accessing Electronic Medical Records, entering referrals, transferring and discharging patients.
  • Document transportation arrangement in the appropriate hospital system and ensure appropriate services are rendered within required time frames
  • Performs related duties as required.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of experience in a healthcare or related environment
  • Ability to multi task in a fast paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
PREFERRED:
  • EMTALA education.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records, preferably Epic
