Job description

IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for a personal lines Underwriter, from our Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Kansas City, Missouri; Rolling Meadows, Illinois; Naperville, Illinois; Scottsdale, Arizona; Raleigh, North Carolina; Jersey City, New Jersey; Newark, New Jersey; Norristown Pennsylvania; Plano, Texas; Alpharetta, Georgia; or Sarasota, FL location.

The Underwriter will be part of a team responsible for overseeing and auditing Managing General Agent (MGA) underwriting activities to ensure adherence to underwriting authority, company guidelines, and regulatory standards. The position requires conducting regular file reviews, portfolio audits, and performance analyses to identify trends, risk exposures, and compliance gaps.

The Underwriter will collaborate with MGA partners to address audit findings, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement efforts.

This role works a hybrid schedule that requires working from the office Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working Thursday and Friday remotely.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and audit underwriter file handling, risk evaluation and processing activities to ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines, authority and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct file reviews and program audits to analyze underwriting quality and compliance with established standards and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor portfolio performance, including profitability, loss ratios and underwriting quality across delegated authority, and applicable state regulations
  • Identify trends, process breakdowns, and control gaps, and document audit findings, key risks and observations
  • Provide recommendations for corrective actions and process improvements and track remediation efforts through completion
  • Oversee MGA handling of department complaints and rescission activity, including review and approval/declination of responses and determinations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards
  • Support internal audits, regulatory exams, and compliance initiatives by providing documentation, underwriting rationale, and subject matter expertise
  • Collaborate cross-functionally, as needed, to address identified issues and support process improvement
  • Maintain thorough documentation of audit activities, findings, and follow-up actions
  • Stay current of regulatory requirements, underwriting practices, and industry trends
  • Participate in training and professional development activities to continuously enhance underwriting knowledge, and technical expertise
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications:

Must-Have:

  • 5+ years of residential insurance underwriting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, insurance, or a related field
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • To qualify, applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require VISA sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment purposes.

Preferred to Have:

  • Industry certifications (e.g., CPCU, AINS, AU) are a plus.

Compensation:

Please note, that the annual gross salary range associated with this posting is $55,200 - $120,330.
