The Team

A&Mโ€™s Financial Services Tax team provides tax consulting, compliance, and reporting services to a diverse range of insurance clients, including property & casualty and life insurance companies.

Our Insurance Tax professionals focus on the full lifecycle of insurance taxation, with deep expertise in Subchapter L, tax accounting, and financial/statutory reporting. We support clients across complex technical matters, including tax planning, issue identification and resolution, and the interpretation of evolving regulatory frameworks. In addition to consulting, we lead and manage tax compliance and provision engagements, helping clients navigate U.S. GAAP (ASC 740) and statutory reporting (SSAP 101) requirements.

Our team operates in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where professionals are expected to be hands-on and adaptableโ€”often โ€œbuilding the plane while flying it.โ€ We partner closely with our clients to deliver practical, high-impact solutions while continuing to grow a high-performing and collaborative practice.

How you will contribute

As a member of the Financial Services Tax โ€“ Insurance practice, you will play a key role in both client delivery and day-to-day engagement management:

  • Manage the execution of insurance tax consulting engagements, including Subchapter L technical research, issue identification, and development of practical tax solutions
  • Support the development and documentation of tax planning strategies tailored to insurance companies
  • Lead and review tax compliance engagements, including Forms 1120-PC and/or 1120-L, and tax provision engagements under ASC 740 and SSAP 101, with a focus on insurance-specific adjustments
  • Mentor and develop senior and staff-level team members, providing guidance, feedback, and on-the-job training
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, developing an understanding of their business and working to become their trusted advisor
  • Own the day-to-day management of client engagements, including deliverables, timelines, budgets, billing, and collections
  • Proactively identify and manage engagement risks, including handling escalations and sensitive client matters with professionalism
  • Build internal relationships and develop a deep understanding of the areas of expertise across the firm to identify opportunities for additional support for our clients
  • Support business development efforts, including preparing proposals, contributing to pitch materials, and tracking opportunities within a growing practice
  • Coordinate across internal teams and subject matter experts to deliver integrated, high-quality client solutions

Qualifications

  • CPA, JD (with bachelorโ€™s and masterโ€™s degrees in accounting or tax, preferred), or LLM
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in corporate or insurance taxation within a Big 4, Big Law, or similar professional services environment
  • Broad understanding of tax consulting, compliance, and financial reporting within insurance or the corporate financial services industries
  • Solid knowledge of the taxation of insurance companies under Subchapter L of the Internal Revenue Code
  • Experience supporting or managing insurance tax compliance engagements, including familiarity with Forms 1120-PC and/or 1120-L
  • Exposure to tax provision and financial reporting, including ASC 740 (U.S. GAAP) and/or SSAP 101 (statutory reporting)
  • Familiarity with tax compliance systems and ability to manage or coordinate workflows through technology-enabled processes
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Self-starter with a flexible, entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, evolving environment
