Job description

Middlebury College's Summer German School is pleased to announce a vacancy for an appointment as a temporary Instructor of German. The position is available during the summer 2026 session (June 24th - August 14th), on Middlebury's main campus in Vermont. Designated as an AATG German Center of Excellence in 2013, Middlebury's German School and its unique 7-week program combine a cultural immersion environment with rigorous daily classroom instruction. This is an opportunity to join a community of learners by actively engaging in teaching, dining, residing and recreational activities with students while reading, writing and speaking exclusively in German 

This is a part-time temporary salaried position. Compensation will be determined on an individual basis as discussed with the Language School director.

In addition to the salary, lodging and a complete meal plan will be provided. Insurance is available. 

Requirements

We are looking for a faculty member with the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in German Studies or German Applied Linguistics/Second Language Acquisition in hand by June 2026
  • Native or near-native proficiency in German language
  • Formal training in second language pedagogy and teaching; demonstrated excellence in teaching German language and culture at all levels
  • At least two years of experience teaching at an institution of higher education in the United States
  • Experience in teaching students of diverse learning backgrounds and commitment to the goals of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Experience teaching as part of a team
  • ABDs will be considered under certain circumstances.
  • The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, dynamic, and confident teacher with a true commitment to student learning and teamwork.
