BAS Field Engineer | Building Automation Systems (BAS)

Commissioning | HVAC Controls | DDC Systems | Building Automation

A growing building automation and HVAC controls organization is seeking an experienced BAS Field Engineer to support the startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of commercial Building Automation Systems.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on BAS professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, bringing HVAC automation systems online, and ensuring building control systems operate efficiently and reliably. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with BAS commissioning, DDC troubleshooting, HVAC controls, and system integration.

This role will work closely with internal teams, contractors, and customers to successfully deliver high-performance building automation solutions from installation through final system validation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform startup, commissioning, and functional testing of commercial Building Automation Systems
  • Verify proper operation of HVAC equipment and sequences of operation
  • Troubleshoot DDC controllers, BAS networks, field devices, and communication issues
  • Diagnose and resolve HVAC controls, integration, and system performance challenges
  • Make programming adjustments and modifications to BAS databases, graphics, schedules, alarms, and trends
  • Support integration of third-party HVAC equipment and systems using protocols such as BACnet and Modbus
  • Optimize system performance to improve energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and equipment reliability
  • Review control drawings, wiring diagrams, and sequences of operation
  • Provide technical support during project execution and system startup
  • Assist with customer training, documentation, and final system acceptance

Qualifications

  • Three or more years of experience working with Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Strong commercial BAS startup and commissioning experience
  • Solid understanding of HVAC mechanical systems and DDC controls
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills involving controllers, networks, and system integration
  • Experience with BAS platforms such as Niagara, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Automated Logic, Distech, or similar systems
  • Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, and other building automation communication protocols
  • Ability to interpret HVAC control drawings, electrical schematics, and sequences of operation
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with customers, contractors, and internal teams
  • Ability to work independently while managing field assignments effectively
