Responsibilities

This is highly responsible supervisory/clerical position which supervises the daily operation of Patient Business Services. An employee in a position allocated to this classification performs highly responsible supervisory/clerical work which involves supervising lower level staff to include assigning duties, checking work, handling disciplinary issues, signing time sheets, and participating in yearly evaluation process; duties also include researching and resolving inquiries from patients and insurance companies; monitors the posting of insurance payments and allowances, reconciliation of credit balances, and reviews accounts for necessary action; work is performed under the general supervision of a manager or supervisor and is reviewed through normal balancing procedures and operations; supervises lower level staff to include assigning duties, checking work, handling disciplinary issues, signing time sheets, and participating in yearly performance evaluations; researches and resolves inquiries from patients and insurance companies; updates information on patient accounts; analyzes patient accounts and posts payments, files insurance claims, and resolves credit balances as required; oversees the processing of insurance claims, tracers, and rebilling of claims; oversees the posting of insurance and patient payments and allowances; monitors insurance payments and allowances for proper reimbursement; oversees the reconciliation of credit balances; monitors timely follow-up assigned files; evaluates daily operations to reduce impact of collections; assists in the training of staff on collection procedures and third party billing requirements; stays abreast of billing compliance with HCFA, Risk Management, CLIA, and other Federal, State, and University regulations regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and five years of hospital and/or medical business office experience, one of which was in a supervisory capacity.

Hospital billing and/or follow-up experience is preferred.
