INSURANCE AND RISK MANAGEMENT CO-OP

Summary of Responsibilities
As a co-op at Merus, youโ€™ll apply what youโ€™ve learned in the classroom through your teachings and coursework and apply it directly in a work environment. By the end of semester, with the hands-on experience youโ€™ve acquired, youโ€™ll be able to take those new learnings and harness them back into the classroom. Co-ops work directly along with the business units to help deliver and execute work results that our organization, clients, investors and fellow colleagues can be proud of.
Responsibilities
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal team members to provide cross-functional support in areas of internal controls, risk management, and insurance.
  • Manage updates to and work within internal database systems related to insurance compliance, prequalification, contractor tiering and confirmation of executed contracts for subcontractors.
  • Assist accounting department with enterprise risk management initiatives and reporting.
  • Assist legal team in developing and reporting on insurance claims.
  • Communicate with insurance brokers for companyโ€™s insurance updates and coverage needs.
  • Assist risk manager with insurance renewal and application process for large property and casualty, management liability and professional liability insurance program.
Qualifications
  • Pursuing a Bachelorโ€™s Degree in one of the following areas of concentration from an accredited College or University:
    • Insurance and Risk Management
    • Enterprise Risk Management
    • Real Estate
    • Other related degrees supported by insurance, risk management, real estate development or construction-oriented course work or experience

Safety Hazard of the Job
Normal safety hazards associated with office work, and with occasional observational visits to construction sites.
Physical Demands
The moderate physical effort required to sit, bend, stoop, lift, walk and climb. Maximum unassisted lift is 70 lbs. Average lift is less than 10 lbs. Requires ability to use a keyboard and monitor. Also requires the ability to communicate verbally, both in person and on the telephone. May require some travel by car/truck.
Environmental Requirements
Moderate to extreme outdoor conditions. Above average noise levels. Protective equipment is required. Average inside office environment. Average office noise levels.
No personal protective equipment is required. Ambient temperature is between 68F and 76F.
