About this Opportunity:
At Regency Centers, our people are our greatest asset, and we believe that our highly skilled and talented team makes us better. We are seeking a Director, Risk Management to join our corporate office located in Jacksonville, FL. This is a hybrid opportunity with 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely after the training period. This individual will provide strategic direction and management for the company's insurance programs, including Property, Liability, and Executive Lines, as well as its captive insurance program, while managing a current team of three.
What You'll Be Doing:
Insurance Program Strategy and Management
  • Develop program design, tailored to the retail shopping center business and the specifics of Regency's national 500-shopping center platform.
  • Negotiate cost effective financial terms, coverage terms and policy language, terms and conditions with brokers and carriers for all three major programs.
  • Work closely with Finance, Accounting, Operations and Legal as to key issues impacting insurance program design, management and implementation, including claims management and resolution.
  • Work closely with Finance, Real Estate Accounting and Property Management to determine the allocation of insurance costs by region, property and legal entity.

Captive Insurance Subsidiary Strategy and Management
  • Direct and manage Bridges Insurance Company, the Company's captive insurance subsidiary, including reserves, distributions, claims, fronting arrangements, governance and annual distributions to shareholders.
  • Recommend and implement short- and longer-term strategic direction for Bridges to maximize its value to the Company as its sole shareholder.

Claims Strategy and Management
  • Lead efforts, while working with Legal, Property Management and other internal groups, as well as TPAs and outside counsel, with respect to claims resolution strategy and management, including:
    • Asserting coverage rights with the Company's insurers.
    • Managing the Company's program to investigate, defend, and respond to claims made against the Company, primarily property and liability at our centers, to minimize exposure and cost.
    • Aggressively tendering claims to and seeking subrogation from third parties whenever possible, to minimize exposure and cost to the Company.

Team Management and Development
  • Manage, train, and motivate Risk Management staff to optimize department productivity, effectiveness and performance.
  • Create and implement development plans to improve each department member's professional development and maximize their long-term potential.

Trend and Data Analysis
  • Analyze property and liability claims data to identify trends, root causes, and exposures.
  • Work closely with Legal and Property Management teams to develop and execute strategic loss control initiatives designed to reduce claim frequency and severity, improve financial outcomes, and support the organization's overall risk management objectives.

Third Party Insurance Requirements
  • Advise, counsel and negotiate on tenant lease, debt financing, construction contractor, and vendor contract terms and conditions relating to insurance and risk management, to achieve optimal insurance contract terms that protect the rights and assets of the Company.

Information Systems
  • Manage and continually improve the Company's Risk Management-related information systems relating to the company's asset portfolio, coverage, and claims detail and history, to optimize data organization, integrity and usefulness.

Are You Qualified?
Required
  • Minimum ten (10) years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Meaningful experience with risk management-related information systems, for the purposes of data management and analysis
  • Ability to understand and interpret insurance policy language, including business and legal ramifications
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial terms and issues relating to insurance and risk management
  • Familiarity with and understanding of actuarial analyses and related issues
  • Knowledge of relevant finance and accounting issues required, including methods of allocating risk management costs, setting reserves for insured claims, and auditing procedures
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience in effective team management and professional development
  • Proficiency in Risk Management-related information systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications and SharePoint, or similar information and file-sharing technologies
  • Comfort and savvy with use of a variety of information management technologies, including ability to learn and adapt to changing technology solutions, including AI
  • Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally as needed
