Position Summary:

The Director, Risk Control supports Arch Insurance's National Accounts Casualty (NAC) business unit by partnering closely with underwriting to deliver risk control insight that supports appropriate risk selection, pricing, structure, and long-term account profitability. This is a senior-level, individual contributor role focused on underwriter support and consultative engagement on complex national account risks involving multiple industry segments other than Construction and Energy.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Underwriting Support & Risk Selection

  • Serve as a primary risk control partner to National Accounts Casualty Underwriting, supporting new business, renewal, and retention decisions:

    • Provide underwritingfocused risk control insight to support Risk selection

    • Program structure

    • Pricing and terms

  • Review and interpret loss history, exposure data, and account information to identify:

    • Loss frequency and severity drivers

    • Systemic or emerging casualty risk issues

    • Atypical or catastrophic exposure characteristics

  • Conduct targeted desktop, virtual, and onsite risk assessments of complex prospective national accounts for underwriting purposes.

  • Collaborate with Claims to understand severity loss drivers, claim trends, and risk control opportunities to improve.

Account Consultative Engagement & Strategic Risk Insight

  • Engage insured risk management teams in a consultative manner, focusing on understanding operations, risk culture, and casualty risk drivers

    • Evaluate and discuss casualty risk management practices related to, Workers' Compensation, General Liability / Product Liability, Auto and NonOwned Auto Liability

    • Provide strategic risk control insight and improvement considerations that support Loss cost containment, Longterm account sustainability and Alignment with underwriting intent

  • Participate in select broker and client meetings to support underwriting strategy and risk dialogue

  • Contribute accountlevel and portfoliolevel engagements and insight to support client activities and continued relationships.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • 7+ years' experience in risk control, risk management, Safety & Health or related field.

  • Strong knowledge of casualty exposures and loss drivers across workers' compensation, general liability, products liability, and auto liability

  • Experience supporting large, complex, and multilocation national accounts

  • Strategic, consultative mindset with the ability to influence.

  • Strong collaborator able to partner effectively with Underwriting, Claims, Brokers and producers, Insured risk management teams

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills; able to communicate risk clearly

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Professional certifications such as ARM, CPCU, CSP, CRIS, or similar

  • Ability to travel up to 25-40%, based on account and underwriting needs

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

For Jersey City / New York/San Fran, Los Angeles: $160,000 - $175,000/year
For Chicago: $150,000 - $165,000/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
