Job description

WIC Program Manager
About the Role
Are you a registered dietitian who's passionate about maternal and child nutrition - and ready to lead a program that makes a direct impact on families in your community? Thundermist Health Center is looking for a WIC Program Manager to oversee the daily operations of our WIC Program in Woonsocket. You'll manage staff, perform nutrition assessments, coordinate services with community agencies, and maintain the critical liaison between Thundermist, the state WIC agency, and the families you serve. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll split your time between direct nutrition counseling and program administration - ensuring high-quality, compassionate care for some of our most vulnerable community members.
What You'll Do
Clinical & Nutrition Services
  • Perform nutrition assessments for WIC participants, perinatal patients, and other Thundermist patients
  • Assess hematological and anthropometric data to inform care plans
  • Develop individualized nutrition plans to promote compliance and improve health outcomes
  • Provide approximately 32 hours per week of direct nutrition counseling
  • Coordinate nutrition services and referrals with Woonsocket community agencies serving children and families, and with Thundermist providers

Program Administration & Staff Leadership
  • Coordinate the ongoing operation and management of the Woonsocket WIC Program
  • Supervise WIC staff, including training, scheduling, and performance oversight
  • Maintain an active liaison relationship between the state WIC agency, Thundermist staff, and WIC participants
  • Manage patient flow through the WIC clinic to ensure efficient and positive experiences
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of WIC charts and documentation
  • Troubleshoot and problem-solve issues with the QWIC system and other program technology
  • Dedicate approximately 8 hours per week to administrative responsibilities

What We're Looking For
You're a credentialed nutrition professional who combines clinical expertise with strong leadership instincts. You're comfortable managing a team, navigating state compliance requirements, and sitting across from a new parent to talk about infant nutrition - all in the same day. You care deeply about health equity and meeting families where they are.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited Nutrition Dietetics program (required)
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Blood handling training (OSHA, hematological and anthropometric measures)
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with proficiency in applicable medical terminology
  • A genuine commitment to patient-centered, high-quality care for diverse and underserved populations, with an authentic passion for health equity and community health

Compensation
$30.00 - $33.00 per hour | Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Schedule & Locations
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position based at Thundermist's Woonsocket location. The role is structured as approximately 32 hours of nutrition counseling and 8 hours of administrative responsibilities per week.
Benefits at Thundermist Health Center
Full-Time Employees Working 40+ Hours/Week
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Life Insurance ($75,000) and Long-Term Disability - at no cost
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (Health FSA up to $3,300 / Dependent Care FSA up to $5,000)
  • Retirement Plan with 1:1 employer match up to 4%
  • Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, and Hospital Indemnity
  • Wellness Reimbursement up to $200/year
  • PTO starting at 22 days, increasing with tenure, plus 6 paid holidays

Work Environment
  • Onsite at Thundermist's Woonsocket location in an ambulatory clinical setting
  • Moderate physical activity: walking, standing, stooping, and occasional lifting
  • Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, respiratory disease, infectious diseases, and other biohazardous materials requiring universal standard precautions
  • Manual dexterity required for hematological and anthropometric procedures
