Insurance Sales Agent at First State Insurance Agency in Lincoln, NE

Job Summary: The Insurance Sales Agent is responsible for driving sustainable growth of the agency by developing strong client relationships, identifying and closing new business opportunities, and expanding coverage solutions for existing clients. This role combines proactive sales efforts with consultative advising, ensuring clients receive appropriate insurance and risk management solutions aligned with their needs. The Insurance Sales Agent collaborates closely with internal teams and carrier partners, upholds regulatory and company standards, and represents First State with professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to long-term customer relationships.
Essential Functions:
Job Specific:
  • Develop and manage a profitable book of business by prospecting, qualifying, and closing new insurance opportunities aligned with agency goals.
  • Meet or exceed individual sales and production goals established annually through consistent pipeline development and client engagement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships through networking activities and the establishment of centers of influence within the community.
  • Educate prospective and existing clients on insurance products and coverage options to support informed decision-making and long-term risk management.
  • Identify opportunities to round accounts, cross-sell additional products, and refer business within First State entities to support organizational growth.
  • Coordinate closely with the account management team to ensure smooth transitions for new business, renewals, policy reviews, and claims support.
  • Provide accurate technical guidance and insurance recommendations while ensuring compliance with carrier guidelines, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain complete and accurate client records by entering data into the customer management system, completing applications and documentation, and reviewing new and renewal policies for accuracy.
  • Participate in ongoing training, education, and sales meetings to strengthen product knowledge, sales effectiveness, and industry awareness.
  • Promote positive working relationships between the agency and its carrier partners through professional communication and responsible representation.
  • Support the onboarding and development of new agency employees by mentoring on agency procedures and best practices, as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support agency operations and business objectives.

  • Exhibit professionalism in appearance and attitude, maintaining confidentiality and ethical behavior at all times.
  • Provide timely assistance and support to both co-workers and customers, ensuring exceptional service and accurate information.

Qualifications:

  • Current Nebraska Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance license required, or the ability to obtain licensure within a specified timeframe.
  • Strong understanding of insurance products, sales principles, and client relationship management practices.
  • Valid motor vehicle driver's license required.

Physical Demands:
  • Engage in routine physical activities such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to read reports and use a computer effectively.
  • Lift and carry items up to 30 pounds daily, including file boxes and office supplies.

Work Environment:
  • Primarily indoors in an environmentally controlled setting.
  • Occasional travel by car to visit other company locations may be required.
  • Flexibility for occasional evening and weekend work to achieve established goals.
