Job Description:

Serves as shift charge person in the absence of department leadership, prioritizing work to ensure instrumentation and equipment availability. Ensures safe work practices for all employees, monitors staff use of PPE in decontamination area, and takes appropriate action in emergency situations. Participates in new employee orientation, on-the-job training, in-service education, and facility process improvement initiatives. Oversees and monitors supply and equipment inventory required for the department. Rotates assignments among various areas within the department, including decontamination, surgical tray assembly, sterilization processes, and equipment management. Operates complex sterilization equipment and selects the correct method of sterilization based on manufacturers’ instructions for use (IFU). Utilizes recall process for sterilization failures and notifies leadership of positive results. Communicates effectively and uses the chain of command to resolve issues. Monitors sterilization practices, keeps accurate records, and takes corrective action if sterilization parameters are not met. Monitors work environment to ensure infection control standards are met, ensures daily cleaning, and takes corrective action for environmental controls. Identifies and resolves issues associated with malfunctioning equipment. Responds to problem calls from all customers and communicates professionally with hospital team members. Other duties as assigned.
