Payment Application Specialist (Remote)
Schedule: MondayโFriday; Standard business hours
Pay: $21-22/hr
Job Summary
We are seeking a Payment Application Specialist to support our revenue cycle team by accurately posting and reconciling patient and insurance payments. This role is responsible for high-volume payment posting, account reconciliation, and ensuring all payments are processed accurately and on time to support month-end close activities.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ years of healthcare billing, health insurance, payment posting, or related revenue cycle experience
- Previous medical insurance payment posting experience
- Experience reading and interpreting Explanation of Benefits (EOBs)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other business systems
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- NextGen and/or Epic experience
- General accounting or reconciliation experience
- Experience working with payer portals, clearinghouses, and ERA/EFT processes
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately post insurance and patient payments, adjustments, ERAs, EFTs, live checks, and credit card payments
- Reconcile daily, weekly, and monthly payment activity and assist with month-end close processes
- Balance payment batches and generate transaction reports
- Verify all deposits, scanned checks, and zero-pay transactions are posted accurately
- Support EFT and ERA enrollment with insurance payers
- Review EOBs and accurately apply payments to patient accounts
- Manage inbound and outbound calls while serving as a liaison between clients and patients when needed
- Respond to client inquiries and resolve support tickets within established service-level expectations
- Maintain accurate documentation, procedures, and training materials
- Collaborate with leadership to identify process improvements and resolve payment-related issues
- Perform administrative tasks including data entry, document scanning, and mail processing
- Cross-train within the department and assist with team coverage as needed
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and organizational standards at all times
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
