We are seeking a Practice Operations Manager in our Baltimore, MD office to support the financial, operational, and strategic success of our Corporate Law Practice Group. The person in this role will proactively develop partnerships with practice group leaders, attorneys, and administrative teams to streamline efficiency, enhance profitability, and cultivate lawyer development. This role is ideal for someone who has strong business acumen, is well organized, and can manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Practice Operations Manager Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and optimize practice group performance through insightful reporting, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Bolster revenue management by tracking inventory.
  • Collaborate with lawyers on pricing strategies and profitability improvement initiatives.
  • Lead the development and implementation of effective pricing strategies for maximized client value.
  • Identify and implement continuous process improvements to boost efficiency and minimize administrative burdens for attorneys to free them to focus on client service.
  • Leverage technology and innovation to streamline workflows and enhance productivity.
  • Partner with leadership, HR and Legal Recruitment to attract, develop and retain top legal talent.
  • Assist with utilization reporting and analysis, resource allocation, associate recruiting, onboarding, training and professional development to cultivate a thriving and engaged team.
  • Manage and oversee a diverse range of projects, including lateral integrations and knowledge management initiatives.
  • Orchestrate the organization, storage, and retrieval of precedents, and expertise databases for seamless knowledge transfer and utilization.
  • Provide strategic support to the business development team on client pitches, proposals, and marketing materials.
  • Collaborate on the coordination of practice group events and sponsorships, where appropriate, contributing to effective budgetary decision making.
  • Partner with practice group leaders to develop and execute strategic plans aligned with the firm's overall vision.
  • Monitor progress, identify potential roadblocks, and proactively suggest solutions to ensure successful plan execution.
  • Foster seamless communication and collaboration between practice group leaders, attorneys, and other firm departments (e.g., Finance, Marketing, HR).

Practice Operations Manager Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a professional services environment, in an accounting, management or operational consulting role, ideally in a law firm.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and pricing strategies.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal practice management software (e.g., LMS, Elite, 3E, or Aderant) preferred.

Miles & Stockbridge offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including PTO, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401K, Firm sponsored Memberships (i.e. Peloton, Norton LifeLock), and more.

The pay range for this position is $140,000 - $159,300. The pay range provided is in compliance with state, city, or local employment laws and applies to this location only. Actual pay for this position will be determined based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, current market data, and business needs.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position or sit for prolonged periods and repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
