Job description

Join Acuity's Legal Department as a Legal Support Specialist, where you'll help support corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and legal operations. You'll help maintain corporate records and filings, conduct research, support audit, and regulatory response efforts, and collaborate with internal partners to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. You will support business and regulatory matters rather than claims handling or claims litigation activities.

You will report to the Director - House Counsel.

What you'll do:

  • Support legal and compliance functions by maintaining regulatory inventories, compliance matrices, and internal tracking tools to support adherence to laws and regulations.
  • Support corporate governance efforts by coordinating and submitting required filings and notices, annual reports, biographical affidavits, fingerprinting requests and other similar items.
  • Assist in preparing corporate governance-related materials as requested (e.g., committee meeting materials, resolutions, minutes).
  • Support drafting and reviewing legal contracts (i.e., terms and conditions, non-disclosure agreements).
  • Assist in coordinating responses to compliance and regulatory inquiries, including cross-departmental efforts, and help document corrective actions and remediation efforts related to regulatory matters.
  • Complete research projects on a variety of state and federal laws, and assist with monitoring such laws as needed.
  • Support coordination and submission of subpoena responses.
  • Assist with monitoring complaints mailbox, coordinate and track responses prepared by claims/underwriting or other departments and ensure timely resolution.
  • Support legal internal investigations.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Law, or a related field; Paralegal Certificate, equivalent legal training, or a similar background is valuable.
  • 5+ years of experience in a corporate, regulatory, compliance, or paralegal role.
  • Background in Property & Casualty insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry, with experience related to contracts or law firms adding value.
  • Working knowledge of insurance laws, corporate compliance, regulatory requirements, and risk management practices.
  • Experience navigating unfamiliar issues, researching new legal, compliance, or regulatory topics, and supporting issue resolution.

Additional Details:

  • This is a non-exempt, hourly position with a hybrid work schedule and onsite attendance at least 2 days per week.
