What does an insurance company nurse practitioner do?

An Insurance Company Nurse Practitioner (NP) evaluates medical records, conducts patient assessments, and helps determine eligibility for insurance coverage or claims. They work closely with insurance underwriters and claims adjusters to review medical histories and provide expert opinions on healthcare needs. Their role is crucial in ensuring that insurance decisions are medically sound, fair, and compliant with regulations. Insurance company NPs may also help develop wellness programs and guidelines for policyholders.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an insurance company nurse practitioner?

To thrive as an Insurance Company Nurse Practitioner, you need advanced clinical assessment skills, a nurse practitioner license, and experience in case management or utilization review. Familiarity with medical coding systems, claims review platforms, and electronic health records (EHRs) is typically required.
