Consultant Claims - CH08CESr Representative Claims - CH08BE

The Hartford is searching for a motivated, positive individual to join our claims team as a Senior Claim Representative or Claims Consultant. The Marine Claims professional is responsible for maintaining and processing Marine claims. You will be handling a wide variety of claims including Marine Liability (P&I) Primary and Excess, MGL, Craft, MEL, and Transport. Proactively investigate, negotiate, and resolve high exposure claims, involving complex issues and/or litigation.

This position may be hired at either the Senior Claim Representative or Claim Consultant level based on the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, and demonstrated technical expertise.


Responsibilities:

  • Claims Processing and Administration

  • Ensures that claims are analyzed for coverage, are adjusted, and paid properly within company guidelines.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients.

  • Coordinating and managing communication with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Underwriting, reinsurers, external vendors, etc.) to ensure the highest level of customer service.

  • Investigate high exposure claims that involve complex issues and/or litigation - requires qualified legal analysis.

  • Evaluate and address coverage issues and determine appropriate reserving levels.

  • Maintain an active Diary.

  • Drive effective subrogation/salvage processes.

  • Ensure all claims handled within authority limits and in line with our procedures and guidelines.

  • Selects vendors, lawyers, independent surveyors, and monitor expenses paid too these vendors to ensure service quality.

  • Reviews and analyzes claim reports to identify and address trends.

  • Develops and implements strategies to correct adverse trends.


Required Skills, Knowledge, and Behavioral Characteristics:

  • Strong claims technical knowledge, and legal exposure is essential.

  • Expert understanding in relevant products, wordings, terms and conditions and coverages

  • Five or more years of experience handling Ocean Marine claims.

  • Claims Handling: Expert knowledge of claims handling process from notification to settlement and recovery.

  • Strong Litigation Management Skills required. An understanding of relevant legal processes and procedures, litigation management, Attend mediations.

  • Excellent people skills: strong written communication skills, ability to communicate clearly and effectively across various levels in the organization.

  • Capable of working and collaborating with virtual team members.

  • Ensure the use of best practices and compliance with all Company policies.

  • Approaching tasks proactively and anticipating needs. Thinking quickly and prioritizing multiple work streams.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word.

  • Some Travel for mediations.

  • Four-year college degree preferred.


This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Lake Mary, FL, Phoenix, AZ, Naperville, IL) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$62,400 - $127,200

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
