Job description

G.A. West & Co. is seeking an Accounting Manager. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity in Creola, AL. This is not a remote position. More details listed below:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for supporting the Controller in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing monthly financial reports, performing account reconciliations, assisting with project accounting activities, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with company accounting policies. This position partners with operations management to provide financial analysis and reporting that supports effective decision-making across multiple industrial construction projects and business units.
Core Responsibilities:
General Ledger Accounting
  • Prepare and post journal entries.
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and GAAP.

Month-End and Year-End Close
  • Assist Controller with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Review income statement fluctuations and provide explanations.
  • Accrue expenses as needed.
  • Support external auditors during annual audits.

Construction / Industrial Project Accounting Support
  • Review project cost transactions for accuracy and proper coding.
  • Analyze labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and overhead costs.
  • Assist with Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.
  • Continue to seek utilization improvements within current ERP, and other technology platforms available to streamline processes & create further efficiencies in the financial reporting and close out process

Financial Reporting
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages.
  • Generate departmental and operational reports.
  • Analyze trends, variances, and key performance indicators.
  • Assist Controller with executive management reporting.
  • Assist with preparation and maintenance of financial dashboards
  • Ad Hoc reporting & analysis as requested.

Cash and Treasury Support
  • Weekly Payment processing.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and credit card statements
  • Monitor cash transactions and transfers.
  • Assist with cash forecasting/cost center budgets.

Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls.
  • Support insurance audits, sales/use tax audits, and payroll audits.
  • Assist with bonding and lender reporting requirements.

Tax Support
  • Assist with sales and use tax filings.
  • Assist with property tax filings.
  • Support income tax requests from external tax advisors.

Requirements
  • 4 years minimum in an accounting position (1 year in management preferably)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

  • Construction/industrial project accounting knowledge.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Not afraid of change and desire to learn new things
  • Ability to communicate financial information to operations personnel.
