The work we do has an impact on millions of lives, and you can be a part of it.
We help protect our customers against life’s uncertainties. Regardless of where you work within the company, you’ll be helping provide protection and peace of mind when our customers need it most.

Join Protective’s Investment Accounting team and support an $80B investment portfolio within a stable, well-established insurance organization. This role is designed for an accountant with a solid foundation in GAAP who is ready to specialize in investment and insurance accounting.

You’ll gain hands-on exposure to fixed income investments, complex financial data, and statutory reporting while working closely with accounting, investment operations, and asset management partners. This is an excellent next step for someone looking to move beyond general accounting into a long-term investment accounting career path.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform investment accounting activities supporting month-end close, including reconciliations, data validation, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain accuracy and integrity of investment data within Protective’s accounting systems and reporting tools.
  • Support GAAP and Statutory financial reporting, including quarterly and management reporting deliverables.
  • Partner with accounting, investment operations, asset management, and accounting policy teams to resolve data and reporting issues.
  • Assist with onboarding new investment assets and ensuring accurate system setup and reporting alignment.
  • Support implementation of new accounting standards and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and efficiency within investment accounting workflows.
  • Participate in system testing, enhancements, and special projects related to investment accounting platforms.
  • Create and maintain process documentation to support consistency, controls, and scalability.
  • Support ad hoc reporting, analysis, and cross-training initiatives across the team.
Core Competencies (Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities):
  • Working knowledge of investment accounting or securities accounting concepts.
  • Understanding of fixed income investments and financial instruments; derivatives exposure a plus.
  • Knowledge of GAAP; Statutory accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work accurately with large data sets.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to take ownership of work and follow projects through to completion.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited university (Master's a plus)
  • 3+ years of accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Technically proficient with accounting systems and an understanding of system and process flows.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams inside and outside the organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Investment or insurance accounting experience
  • Exposure to insurance industry accounting, including Statutory reporting.
  • Experience with PAM or a similar investment accounting system.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or progress toward CPA.
  • Experience supporting system implementations, process improvements, or automation initiatives.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and commitment to continuous learning.
