Accountant

Join the George W. As an Accountant, you will play a key role within a collaborative finance team by managing day-to-day accounting operations, supporting financial reporting, and ensuring strong internal controls that help drive operational excellence in a mission-driven organization. In this role, you will apply your expertise in accounts payable, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial analysis to maintain accurate financial records, support audit and reporting processes, and contribute to continuous improvement across the accounting function.

To succeed as an Accountant, you should have:        

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CPA-track preferred, with a minimum of 3+ years of professional accounting or finance experience; nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, accounts payable, financial reporting, and reconciliations, with experience supporting month-end close and audit preparation.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (data analysis, pivot tables, formulas) and proficiency with accounting and financial management systems; Blackbaud Financial Edge and Concur experience preferred.
  • Solid analytical, data entry, and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail; professional fluency in English required and ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced finance environment.

Your responsibilities as an Accountant on our team will include:        

  • Process accounts payable transactions, including invoice review, general ledger coding, vendor management, and ACH/check payment processing to ensure timely and accurate disbursements.
  • Prepare journal entries and perform monthly general ledger reconciliations, supporting the month-end close process and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Reconcile and manage corporate credit card and purchasing card activity, ensuring compliance with internal accounting policies and documentation standards.
  • Support financial reporting, audit preparation, and tax documentation, partnering with the Controller to meet internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Conduct financial analysis, account research, and cross-functional communication with business partners, banks, and vendors while assisting with special projects and process improvements.
