Job Description

PCI is seeking an experienced Mechanical Insulation Estimator for its PCI Washington DC 566 operations based in Ashburn, VA.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Perform quantitative takeoffs on construction projects
  • Establish labor productivities for estimate
  • Maintain positive relationships with area vendors for competitive material and equipment pricing
  • Solicit subcontractor pricing for work done outside of our self-performing group
  • Gain understanding of market conditions and competitive approach through engaging customer feedback on proposal scope clarifications and price.
  • Understanding backlog, level or risk for work, and other factors for establishing margin percentages to mitigate risk.
  • Involvement in internal bid reviews with supervisors and project teams
  • Participate in customer alignment objectives by creating and maintaining positive customer relationships.
  • Utilize wage and benefit schedules
  • Hand-off secured projects to the Operations team
  • Assist in other duties as assigned such as change orders depending on the project(s)
  • Support other members of the Estimating team for product line collaboration


Salary Range: $88,000-$116,000 annual salary plus non-guaranteed annualized bonus program.

This position is safety sensitive.

Basic Requirements

  • Strong ability to read, understand and interpret specifications and drawings for PCIโ€™s scopes of work.
  • Strong record of establishing and maintaining customer relationships.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and cost analysis.
  • Proactive and self-motivatedย 
  • Ability to accurately read schedules for sequencing and durations of applicable scopes of work.
  • Proficiency with computer takeoff & estimating software such as On-Screen Takeoff, BuzzBID, Quickbid, and/or MIKE.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office, BlueBeam Revu, Procore, or PlanSwift.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, or related discipline
  • At least 2-4 years of experience estimating construction projects is preferred
  • Experience with estimating/project management/managing HVAC pipe and duct insulation scopes of construction is preferred
  • Local to San Antonio metro area
