Qnity Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Designer

The Qnity Global Automation team is seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation Designer in Delaware for Integrated Operations. The selected candidate will provide leadership, which includes supporting a global community, developing electrical & instrumentation drawings with site engineers, and supporting sites with project execution. The ideal candidate will have detailed expertise in designing and commissioning automated equipment for continuous and discrete processes. Design and development needs will range from improvements to existing manufacturing equipment to the development of new, custom-designed equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports the EHS organization to assist with investigations and action items.
  • Collaborate and support the Qnity S1M machine safety standard (ISO 13849, ANSI B11, ISO 12100). Proactively address machine safety risks by interpreting the machine risk assessments (MRAs) during design and execution.
  • Ability to collaborate with Functional Safety Engineers to design Safety Instrumented Functions for the Process Industry on Safety Instrumented Systems using the Safety Requirement Specifications per IEC 61511.
  • Ability to collaborate with a mechanical designer to understand the challenges they face and provide electrical solutions.
  • Update electrical standards and drawing templates to support the equipment design from a global perspective.
  • Provides technical expertise to support the following:
    • Panel layout drawings - Power and Controls
    • Interpreting P&IDs, electrical one-lines, system architecture, and network drawings.
    • Development of complete E&I packages involving control devices, PLC hardware, instrumentation, robotics, barcoding, and inspection systems.
    • Design and Specifications for Process Instrumentation (Pressure, Temperature, Level, Flow)
    • Field verification and revision including wiring drawings, loop drawings, conduit and cable routing, grounding plans, instrumentation details, and bill of materials.
    • Assist engineers with detailed design and vendor packages review
    • Commissioning and startup for electrical and instrumentation equipment
    • Low Voltage Motor Control Centers Design
    • Adjustable Speed Drives Electrical Design
    • Knowledge of hazardous area classification and NEC requirements
  • Develop cost estimate templates for components, wiring, and fabrication/assembly
  • Ability to collaborate with external suppliers to design, fabricate, and qualify equipment.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in electrical design
  • 5+ years of experience with SolidWorks Electrical including Product Data Management (PDM)
  • 5+ years of experience with AutoCAD & Microstation
  • Associate's degree in electrical engineering
  • Able to travel to manufacturing sites (average 30% of time)
  • Experience with electrical fabrication technology
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a challenging, diverse team environment in a respectful manner.
