Job description

We are seeking an Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Designer with experience in Instrumentation and Controls design for Refinery and Oil and Gas Industries. The I&C Design position calls for a candidate with experience in I&C design principles and practices. The position involves contributing to both single-discipline and multi-disciplinary projects, collaborating closely with senior designers and / or engineers. The position requires the candidate to work independently but occasionally will work under senior I&C design lead supervision. Responsibilities also include preparing scopes of work, budgets, and providing input to project schedules.

Compensation: $42.00 - $50.00/hour *Anticipated hourly rate may vary based on skills, experience, qualifications and internal peer equity. The pay range listed for this position is based on the anticipated base compensation at the time of the posting.

Work Arrangement: 3 days onsite in Ferndale, WA, 2 days remote *option to work from home Monday and Friday. Every other Friday off.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, safety and environmental issues. Address issues as necessary to ensure zero harm to all employees, clients, and contractors with zero environmental incidents.
  • Consistently achieve goals, delivering quality and accurate work and meeting project schedules. This includes reviewing project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
  • Ability to assemble I&C engineering, drawing and construction work packages for review and approval, that may include Instrument Index, I/O List, and design deliverables including loop diagrams, conduit and wiring diagrams, schematics, installation details, location plans and other project
  • Support development of man hour estimates and material take-offs (MTO).
  • Perform job walks, site visits, assisting with scope development and supporting IFC (construction) package completion.
  • Respond to construction requests for information (RFIs).
  • Support project construction, commissioning and start-up as well as client site turnaround activities as required.
  • Attend and participate in Client and Eichleay project team meetings when required.
  • Effectively interact with all levels of employees and clients.
  • Willingness to follow directions and guidance from senior Design and Engineering staff.
  • Maintain schedule and budget commitments.

      Job Requirements:

      • Education: Associate’s degree in engineering or scientific discipline is preferred, or specialized courses in drafting, AutoCAD, engineering drawing, and 3D modeling.
      • Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Refinery or other oil and gas related industries.
      • Location: This position is hybrid with three days in the Ferndale WA office and two days working from home.
      • Skills:
        • Ability to coordinate with other disciplines and project management in a team environment.
        • Coordinate with vendors and clients.
        • Manage budgets and schedules.
        • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
        • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and working experience with AutoCAD/NavisWorks, and Bluebeam software.
      • Technical Competence:
        • Sound knowledge of design and drafting techniques, AutoCAD, engineering drawings, 3D Modeling and experience in reading engineering documents.
        • Basic understanding of electrical design activities and deliverables is preferred.
        • Solid experience with Smart Instrumentation (SI) / Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) including loop wiring.
        • Familiarity with industry standards including ISA, ANSI, ASME, API, and NFPA/NEC standards is desirable.
      • Travel: Travel to local clients will be required and can be at least one day per week for meetings. Travel outside the area is expected to be minimal, less than 10%
      • Industry Requirements: This role will require all or some of the following requirements at time of hire or during employment
        • HHFT Safety Training and current card or ability to obtain.
        • Client Safety Training and current badge or ability to obtain.
        • TWIC Certification and current card or ability to obtain. TWIC card must be obtained prior to start date or start date may need to be adjusted.
        • Background screening including previous employment, education, criminal history, and driving record verification.
        • Participation in random drug and alcohol programs.
      • Preferred Skills / Experience
        • Experience working onsite at a refinery or similar industrial facility is preferred.
        • Working knowledge of Smart Instrumentation (SI) / Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) wiring and loop diagram creation is required.
        • Experience in working with High Value Engineering centers (HVE) is desirable.

      • Job duties will be performed at a client site, production facility or industrial/construction job site.
