Job description

As a Head Instructor, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our aquatic programs and providing excellent instruction and support to our clients and swimmers. This position offers the opportunity to connect with clients, swimmers, and instructors, discuss progress, address concerns, and assist with training and evaluation of staff. Responsibilities:

  • Teach lessons and step into the role of a substitute instructor when required, delivering exceptional swim lessons and ensuring a safe and engaging environment for swimmers.
  • Act as the head instructor, providing leadership and guidance to support our team of instructors, addressing questions and concerns, and fostering a positive and supportive team dynamic.
  • Connect with clients and swimmers, discussing their progress, addressing any concerns or feedback, and fostering a positive and engaging experience.
  • Assist instructors with questions and challenges they may encounter during lessons, providing guidance and sharing best practices.
  • Train new staff members on teaching techniques, safety protocols, and program guidelines, ensuring they are well-equipped to deliver excellent instruction.
  • Evaluate staff performance and provide constructive feedback and coaching to support their growth and development.
  • Collaborate with the Aquatic Manager to develop and implement effective training programs, lesson plans, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain a high standard of safety by enforcing water safety rules, conducting regular inspections of the facility, and addressing any potential hazards.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling, and maintaining accurate records of attendance and progress.

Qualifications:

  • Hold current certification in CPR-C, Standard First Aid, and NL.
  • Previous experience as a competitive swimmer an asset.
  • 3+ years experience as a swim instructor/deck supervisor, with a strong understanding of swimming techniques, stroke development, and water safety practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with clients, swimmers, and instructors of all ages.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with experience in guiding and supporting a team of instructors.
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Flexibility in schedule to accommodate evening and weekend shifts.
  • Passion for providing exceptional customer service and creating a positive and engaging learning environment.
