Job SummaryThe Teaching Assistant (TA) for ASU 1101 First-Year Seminar and University College Learning Communities serves as a peer leader and instructional support team member responsible for assisting faculty, supporting first-year students, and enhancing student engagement. Teaching Assistants will provide mentorship, facilitate small group discussions, assist with classroom activities, and support University Learning Community initiatives.
This position is funded through Title III and is designed to strengthen first-year student retention, engagement, and academic success. Teaching Assistants will serve as role models and peer mentors to students enrolled in ASU 1101 and participate in University College Learning Communities.
Sponsorship is not available for this position.
ResponsibilitiesInstructional Support - Assist faculty with classroom instruction and facilitation of ASU 1101.
- Support Small group discussions and classroom engagement activities.
- Assist with attendance tracking and student participation.
- Provide feedback to faculty regarding student engagement and participation.
Peer Mentoring and Student Support - Serve as a peer mentor to first-year students.
- Assist students with navigating campus resources.
- Support students in developing academic success skills.
- Encourage participation in campus events and learning community activities.
- Identify students who may need additional academic support or personal support.
Learning Community Engagement - Support University College Learning Community programming.
- Assist with workshops and academic skill-building sessions.
- Promote student involvement within learning communities.
- Assist with co-curricular and engagement activities.
Administrative Support - Assist with program logistics and communication.
- Support event planning and coordination.
- Participate in Teaching Assistant meetings and training sessions.
- Complete required reports and documentation as assigned.
Required Qualifications- Must be a Junior or Senior at ASU.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher.
- Good academic and disciplinary standing.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and engagement on campus.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
Preferred Qualifications- Previous leadership experience.
- Experience serving as a peer mentor, tutor, or student leader.
- Participation in learning communities or student success initiatives.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Proposed SalaryThis position is funded through Title III and compensation will be determined in accordance with institutional student employment guidelines. The pay for this position is $1,000.00 per semester.
