The Mountaineer Micro Academy at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Instructional Design Assistant.
About the Opportunity
The Instructional Design Assistant provides instructional design, technical support, and administrative coordination for microcredential and digital badging initiatives for the Mountaineer Micro Academy under the direction of the Provost's Office. The position works collaboratively with academic units, program partners, and central administrative offices to develop, maintain, and deliver high-quality microcredential offerings aligned with institutional priorities. The incumbent is also responsible for system administration, user and learner support, and process documentation, and contributes to the continuous improvement of WVU's microcredential framework. This is a remote position.

What You'll Do
Instructional Design & Curriculum Support
- Collaborates with subject matter experts to design, develop, and revise microcredential curricula following instructional design best practices.
- Assists faculty and program personnel in creating effective learning materials, assessments, multimedia, and learner experiences.
- Supports the development, organization, and quality assurance of online instructional materials within the LMS, ensuring alignment with microcredential requirements and WVU standards.
- Develops support resources-including best-practice guides, timelines, and evaluation tools-to promote consistent implementation of microcredential offerings.
Registration Portal Administration
- Serves as an administrator of the learner registration and management portal which hosts microcredential offerings and connects to the WVU LMS.
- Provides technical support to learners, instructors, affiliation managers, and administrative staff.
- Troubleshoots and documents incoming technical issues and coordinates with relevant users, units, and vendors.
Financial & Administrative Support
- Assists with accounts receivable and payable processes related to MMA registrations and revenue distribution.
- Troubleshoots partner and learner inquiries in regard to financial accounts on the learner registration portal.
- Supports reconciliation, funds transfer, and report development in regard to MMA financial workflows and shared services processes.
Program Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
- Monitors trouble ticket system and department phoneline for incoming inquiries
- Collaborates with instructional designers, faculty, and multimedia staff on assigned projects requiring coordinated development work.
- Collects, organizes, and maintains microcredential program information from academic units.
- Prepares reports, status updates, and documentation for leadership as required.
- Engages in professional development to remain current with instructional technologies, pedagogical approaches, and microcredential trends.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in instructional design, education, educational technology, curriculum and instruction, communications, information systems, or a related field.
- A minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of instructional design principles, online learning practices, and assessment development.
- Ability to develop, organize, revise, and quality-check online instructional materials.
- Ability to learn and support learning management systems, registration systems, digital badging platforms, and online authoring tools.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical processes clearly to learners, faculty, staff, and external partners with varying levels of technical experience.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, requests, deadlines, and competing priorities.
- Ability to document processes, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, subject matter experts, instructional designers, multimedia personnel, administrative units, and external partners.
- Ability to provide responsive and professional customer and learner support.
- Ability to work independently while recognizing when an issue requires coordination or escalation.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards and their application to online instructional content.
- Ability to use data, feedback, and basic research to support continuous improvement.
- Ability and willingness to learn new technologies, processes, and emerging practices related to microcredentials and digital learning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in utilizing graphic design, video/audio recording and editing software, and AI-assisted media production tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Fliki, and similar platforms) to develop and optimize instructional media assets for microcredential and MMA projects.
- Interest or experience in program development or supporting the growth of online, professional, or workforce-focused credentials.
- Familiarity with marketing, outreach, or communication strategies that support program visibility and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience with Genius SIS (registration portal), Blackboard Ultra (LMS), Articulate 360 (Rise & Storyline), Parchment Digital Badges (Canvas), Jira, SharePoint, Zoom Phone, and related tools to track requests, manage tickets, document workflows, troubleshoot user issues, and coordinate collaborative work across units.
