What are Instruction Librarians?

Instruction Librarians are academic librarians who specialize in teaching students, faculty, and other library patrons how to effectively find, evaluate, and use information resources. They often design and deliver educational sessions, workshops, and tutorials on information literacy, research strategies, and the use of library tools. To thrive as an Instruction Librarian, you need expertise in information literacy, instructional design, and library science, often supported by a Master’s in Library and Information Science (MLIS). Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills are crucial for effectively engaging students and faculty. These competencies ensure effective teaching, foster lifelong learning, and support the academic success of the library’s diverse users.
