Job description

Ascent Contracting is seeking an experienced Commercial Flooring Installation Manager to lead all flooring field operations. This position is responsible for ensuring projects are installed safely, correctly, efficiently, and at the highest quality standards.

This is not an entry-level management position. The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on commercial flooring installation experience and is considered a technical expert in the industry. They must be capable of solving complex field issues, training installers, troubleshooting installation failures, interpreting specifications, and serving as the primary resource for all flooring-related field operations.

The successful candidate will be highly organized, responsive, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering exceptional workmanship and customer service.

Field Leadership & Problem Solving

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all flooring installation field issues.
  • Answer calls from crews, project managers, superintendents, and customers regarding installation challenges.
  • Visit jobsites as needed to resolve technical issues and maintain production schedules.
  • Make decisions quickly and confidently to keep projects moving forward.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and logistics across multiple projects.

Quality Control

  • Own quality control for all flooring installations.
  • Conduct routine jobsite inspections before, during, and after installation.
  • Identify deficiencies before they become customer issues.
  • Ensure installations meet manufacturer specifications, industry standards, and company expectations.
  • Maintain punch-free project delivery whenever possible.
  • Develop and implement installation best practices and quality standards.

  • Troubleshoot installation failures, moisture issues, substrate concerns, and warranty-related matters.

Training & Workforce Development

  • Train and mentor new installers.
  • Develop installation standards and field training programs.
  • Evaluate installer skill levels and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with recruiting and onboarding flooring installers.
  • Build a culture focused on craftsmanship, professionalism, and accountability.

Project Execution

  • Coordinate with project managers to ensure projects are staffed and prepared for success.
  • Verify material readiness, equipment needs, and site conditions before installation begins.
  • Monitor labor productivity and installation efficiency.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of commercial flooring installation experience.
  • Minimum 3 years leading crews, foremen, or field operations.
  • Direct hands-on installation experience is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial flooring systems and installation methods.
  • Ability to read plans, specifications, finish schedules, and shop drawings.
  • Strong understanding of moisture testing, floor preparation, and substrate evaluation.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and solve complex field problems.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and training abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Valid driver's license.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Field Operations

  • Perform installations on projects as needed or directed
  • Manage day-to-day flooring installation operations across multiple commercial projects
  • Coordinate manpower, schedules, material deliveries, and equipment needs
  • Lead and supervise installation crews, subcontractors, and field supervisors
  • Review project plans, specifications, and installation requirements prior to mobilization
  • Conduct site visits to monitor progress, quality, and safety compliance
  • Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within labor budgets
  • Troubleshoot field issues and proactively solve installation challenges

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and develop installers and field personnel
  • Maintain accountability and productivity standards across crews
  • Foster a strong culture of communication, professionalism, and teamwork
  • Conduct regular crew meetings and performance evaluations

Client & Internal Coordination

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for project managers, superintendents, and customers during installation
  • Coordinate closely with estimating, project management, and procurement teams
  • Communicate schedule changes, project risks, and manpower needs proactively
  • Support customer satisfaction through responsiveness and attention to detail

Quality & Safety

  • Enforce company safety standards and OSHA compliance
  • Maintain high-quality workmanship standards on all projects
  • Conduct punch walks and oversee completion of closeout items
  • Ensure proper installation methods per manufacturer specifications and industry standards

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in commercial flooring installation management or field supervision
  • Strong knowledge of commercial flooring systems including:
    • Carpet Tile/Broadloom
    • LVT/LVP
    • VCT
    • Sheet Vinyl
    • Rubber Flooring
    • Specialty Flooring Systems
  • Ability to read blueprints, finish schedules, and construction documents
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience managing multiple projects and crews simultaneously
  • Proficient with scheduling software, Microsoft Office, and mobile field technology
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
