Job description


Our client is seeking an AV Installation Technician to support commercial audio/video projects across the Greater Hampton Roads and Richmond areas.
This is a hands-on, field-based role responsible for installing, configuring, and troubleshooting audio/video systems in commercial environments. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically skilled, and committed to delivering high-quality installations and exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install and complete commercial AV installations, from single-room systems to fully integrated building solutions
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot AV systems, including displays, audio systems, control systems, and associated cabling
  • Build equipment racks, manage structured cabling, and perform rough-in installations
  • Read and interpret project drawings, scope documents, and installation plans
  • Maintain quality workmanship and adhere to safety standards on job sites
  • Communicate effectively with project teams, engineers, clients, and other trades
  • Document completed work and assist with system testing and commissioning
  • Travel locally to job sites as needed
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of commercial AV installation or troubleshooting experience preferred
  • Experience working with AV systems such as:
    • Flat-panel displays and projectors
    • 25/70V audio systems
    • Control systems (Crestron, Extron, or similar)
    • Video distribution, DSP, and IP-based AV solutions
  • Familiarity with structured cabling and commercial construction environments
  • Basic networking knowledge
  • AVIXA CTS or similar industry certifications preferred
Additional Requirements
  • Own basic tools and reliable transportation
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass a background check (DCJS eligible)
  • Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and construction sites
  • Ability to safely use power tools and testing equipment
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and meet project deadlines
