Job description

Job Summary:

VFS Fire & Security Services is seeking a skilled Fire Alarm & Sprinkler Inspector - Level II to perform inspections, basic service, and routine troubleshooting of fire alarm and sprinkler systems. This role supports compliance with NFPA codes, state and local regulations, and internal standards. The Level II Inspector works under the guidance of senior inspectors and supervisors and may assist in training junior team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm and sprinkler systems in accordance with NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and all applicable local, state, and federal codes
  • Troubleshoot system issues and complete minor repairs on fire alarm and sprinkler equipment
  • Assist with system programming and commissioning under the direction of senior technicians
  • Prepare clear, accurate documentation of inspection results, identified deficiencies, and corrective actions taken
  • Communicate findings, system status, and recommended repairs to customers in a professional, courteous manner
  • Support senior inspectors and project teams on complex installations, retrofits, and service calls
  • Maintain assigned tools, test equipment, and parts inventory in company vehicle in clean, organized, and working condition
  • Safely perform work at elevated heights, on ladders and aerial lifts, and within confined spaces in compliance with OSHA and Cal/OSHA standards
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and jobsite requirements while representing the company professionally at customer locations

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3-4 years of hands-on experience inspecting, testing, or servicing fire alarm and/or fire sprinkler systems
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 72 and NFPA 25 inspection procedures and standard troubleshooting practices
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from technical drawings, riser diagrams, and equipment specifications
  • Proficient with mobile devices, inspection software, and standard computer applications (Microsoft Office, web-based reporting tools, mobile apps)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers, building managers, and team members
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a field service environment
  • Ability to meet company driving eligibility requirements, including holding a valid driver's license and maintaining an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights, on lifts, and in confined spaces

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NICET Level I or II certification in Fire Alarm Systems or Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems
  • Experience with additional low-voltage systems (security, access control, CCTV, or nurse call)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
