Insights Director information

What is an insights director?

Insights Directors are senior professionals responsible for leading the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data to help organizations make informed business decisions. They oversee research initiatives, manage teams of analysts, and translate complex data into actionable strategies for marketing, product development, or overall business growth. Insights Directors often collaborate with various departments to ensure data-driven recommendations align with company goals. Their expertise lies in understanding market trends, customer behavior, and competitive landscapes to guide strategic planning.

How does an insights director typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business strategy?

An Insights Director works closely with teams such as marketing, product development, and sales to ensure that data-driven insights inform key business decisions. This collaboration often involves leading workshops, presenting research findings, and translating complex data into actionable recommendations. By acting as a bridge between raw data and strategic planning, the Insights Director ensures that various departments align their efforts with consumer trends and market opportunities. Regular communication and relationship-building are crucial, as the role often guides cross-functional teams toward shared goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an insights director, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Insights Director, you need strong analytical skills, expertise in data interpretation, and a background in market research or business analytics, often supported by an advanced degree. Familiarity with data visualization tools (like Tableau or Power BI), statistical software (such as SPSS or SAS), and CRM platforms is typically required. Exceptional communication, leadership, and strategic thinking skills enable effective collaboration and the translation of insights into actionable business recommendations. These capabilities ensure that insights are accurately identified, clearly conveyed, and effectively drive organizational growth and decision-making.

We are a competitive strategy consultancy that works on behalf of our clients to understand their competitive environment and outmaneuver their competition. Our work shapes strategy at the highest levels of the life sciences industry and, by extension, positively impacts patients’ lives.

This role requires a deep understanding of how pharmaceutical and biotech organizations leverage competitive intelligence to inform strategic and tactical decisions, along with the ability to translate complex information into clear, actionable insights that drive impact.
What You’ll Do

  • Provide senior oversight across multiple client engagements, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality, strategic, and actionable insights
  • Elevate team outputs by sharpening the “so what” and tying insights to client business priorities
  • Serve as a senior thought partner and escalation point for client stakeholders
  • Ensure all deliverables meet Sedulo’s highest standards of quality, professionalism, and polish
Team Leadership & Development

  • Act as a therapeutic area and competitive intelligence subject matter expert, serving as a sounding board for teams
  • Drive structured development through coaching, feedback, and structured growth opportunities
Business Development & Growth
  • Support business development efforts including proposal development, pitch participation, and opportunity shaping
  • Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and deliver additional value
  • Represent Sedulo in client interactions, workshops, and industry settings
Operational Excellence & Innovation
  • Drive delivery and operational excellence across engagements, including project structuring, resourcing, and workflow management
  • Champion innovation in delivery through the integration of AI, automation, tools, and new deliverable formats
  • Continuously refine internal processes and methodologies to scale quality, consistency, and efficiency
Project Contribution
  • Actively contribute to project work when needed, including research design, insight generation, and deliverable development
  • Demonstrate a willingness to roll up sleeves and engage deeply in complex or nuanced workstreams
  • Provide hands-on guidance in high-priority or challenging engagements
Workshops & Strategic Engagements
  • Support and participate in client workshops, including competitive strategy discussions and scenario planning exercises
  • Translate insights into interactive, decision-oriented implications that drive client action

Our Ideal Candidate
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences discipline required (Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or related field)
  • Advanced degree strongly preferred (MS, PhD, MBA)
Experience
  • 6–10+ years of experience in life sciences consulting, competitive intelligence, or strategic insights roles
  • Proven experience leading teams and overseeing complex client engagements
  • Experience in a client-facing role, with an appreciation for the dynamics of client service, delivery excellence, and stakeholder management
  • Exposure to pharma workshops or strategic engagements such as scenario planning or competitive discussions

Skills & Attributes
Strategic & Industry Expertise
  • Strong understanding of how pharmaceutical manufacturers leverage insights to inform strategic and tactical decision-making
  • Broad knowledge of clinical development, commercialization, product launch, and lifecycle management across therapeutic areas
Insight Generation & Storytelling
  • Exceptional ability to synthesize complex and disparate information into clear, concise, and compelling insights
  • Ability to translate intelligence into executive-level narratives tailored to diverse stakeholder groups
Leadership & Team Development
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to influence across levels

  • Interest in driving innovation across tools, processes, and deliverable formats
Mindset
  • Player-coach mentality with a willingness to engage directly in the work
  • Intellectual curiosity, ownership, and a strong bias toward action
  • High standards for quality and a commitment to delivering exceptional client value

Compensation & Benefits

  • Performance-based bonus
  • Comprehensive benefits package (health, vision, dental, life and disability, 401k with match, PTO, holidays, and professional development)
  • Remote position with opportunities to travel occasionally for team meetings, client engagements, and industry events

Why Sedulo?
At Sedulo, you will:
