Position Level: Non-exempt

Reports To: Shift Supervisor

Position Summary: The Inserter Operator is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting the W+D BB700 machine to produce accurate work on a timely basis. The operator conducts quality checks and performs other tasks whenever needed as they works with one or more machines from time to time depending on workload and date of delivery. As an Inserter Operator, it is essential to produce high-quality, detailed work based on established guidelines and procedures - precision is a must with consistent output.

Essential Job Functions (include but are not limited to):

  • Meet with supervisor daily for schedule, job progress, tasks
  • Read job tickets and properly document both counts of product and times that job was produced into the shop floor data system
  • Machine set up and operation:
  • Set up and fine tuning of pockets to insure minimal drops and stops during operation
  • Inspect working parts and be able to recognize those that need replacement
  • Setup, monitor and maintain inkjet systems when applicable 
  • Source correct materials for job according to job ticket
  • Constantly monitor quality of finished product
  • Be responsible for general maintenance and lubrication of machine
  • Assist with housekeeping in the inserting area
  • Follow all required safety procedures such as: PPE's, Ergonomics, Chemical Hazards, etc. Performs job in a manner that protects the health and safety of all employees
  • Maintain production charts and records
  • Train new employees
  • Give direction to machine crew through production and down time
  • Provide leadership as required
  • Provide input to supervisor for evaluations
  • Follows all company policies and procedures 
  • Complete and demonstrate a full understanding of ongoing training concepts and applications

Requirements

Education/Skills/Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of 2 years working in a production facility, preferably on inserting equipment

Physical requirements:

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Frequently stoop, kneel, or bend over
  • Stand for extended periods of time
  • Talk and hear, both in person and by telephone
  • Read and interpret documents in English such as job tickets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Write routine reports and correspondence in English
  • Speak in English effectively before groups of workers
  • Add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • During election cycles, this position may be required to work up to 12-hour shifts and up to 7 days a week


Work Environment:

  • Primarily indoors, controlled temperature environment 
  • While performing in this environment the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration 
  • Ability to work in a plant work environment with a variation of noise levels to include high to moderate noise due to hand tools, machinery, heavy equipment, forklift, crane, hoist, pallet jack, alarms, and general conversations 
  • This position will be working with office equipment such as computer, printer, scanner, copy/fax machine, and telephone 
  • Ability to work at a consistent pace 
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate in a professional manner 
  • Sustains housekeeping standards in accordance with appearance guidelines
