Opportunity OverviewThe Innovation Lab is an advanced R&D team that is part of the Semiconductor Test Division at Teradyne. We have a dual charter to technically support the growth of the division and company:
  • Create long term differentiated solutions for our core Semiconductor Test business by exploring new technologies and architectures to be applied against current and emerging key requirements for our customers.
  • Working with our Business Development Office, develop differentiated solutions for new business opportunities adjacent to our core business. These will generally enable new businesses within our existing customer base.

As a member of the Innovation Lab Staff, you will be empowered to propose any project that you feel can make a difference relative to the Innovation Lab Charter. In general, you will "own" the projects you sponsor and lead the development through a proof-of-concept phase. You will typically be hands-on during the project and will be supported by other staff from the overall engineering team as required to execute your project. Some level of risk taking is strongly encouraged to "move the needle" for the area associated with each project.
All About You
We're looking for a highly accomplished engineer or scientist who combines deep technical expertise with creativity, curiosity, and a passion for innovation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • M.S. in Engineering or Physics (Ph.D. preferred).
  • 15+ years of engineering experience with a strong track record of developing innovative technologies and leading advanced R&D initiatives.
  • Professional experience designing, developing, or working with optical systems, photonics, electro-optical instrumentation, lasers, fiber optics, imaging systems, or related optical technologies.
  • In addition to optics, some level of experience and comfort in multiple other engineering domains such as electronics, mechanical, thermal, control systems, software.
  • Demonstrated success defining differentiated product or system architectures.
  • Broad technical curiosity and the ability to connect ideas across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Proven ability to lead highly ambiguous, early-stage technology development efforts.

  • Optical systems and instrumentation

  • High-performance signal delivery and interconnects
  • Thermal management and advanced cooling
  • Software, embedded systems, or AI/ML applied to hardware
  • Experience in the semiconductor industry, semiconductor test, automated test equipment (ATE), or adjacent high-technology industries is strongly preferred.

Candidates should also be comfortable interacting with customers and senior leadership, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate an innovative, out-of-the-box approach to solving complex technical problems.

Compensation: The base salary range for this role is $175,300-$280,600. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.
