In the field of inline inspection, senior inspectors with specialized skills, such as those certified in advanced nondestructive testing or with extensive pipeline experience, tend to earn higher salaries. Supervisory or managerial roles in inspection also typically offer higher pay compared to entry-level positions. Experience, certifications, and the complexity of the inspection environment influence earning potential.

How do you become a pipeline inspector?

Certifications such as API 570 or API 653 are often required, and inspectors must have knowledge of safety standards, inspection tools, and reporting procedures. On-the-job training and familiarity with industry regulations are also important for this role.

What does a pipeline inspector make?

A pipeline inspector typically earns between $60,000 and $100,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and certifications. They inspect pipelines for safety, compliance, and integrity using tools like ultrasonic testers and require knowledge of industry standards and safety protocols.

What is inline inspection?

Inline inspection (ILI) refers to the process of assessing the condition of pipelines from the inside using specialized inspection tools, often called 'smart pigs.' These tools travel through the pipeline and collect data on features such as metal loss, cracks, and deformations, helping operators identify potential issues before they become serious problems. Inline inspection is crucial for maintaining pipeline integrity, ensuring safety, and meeting regulatory requirements in the oil and gas industry. The data collected allows for more accurate maintenance planning and can extend the useful life of the pipeline.
