Job description

GovCIO is currently hiring for a Senior Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Engineer to support Virtual Desktop Infrastructure engineering and modernization efforts. This position will be located in Doral, FL and will be an onsite position.
Responsibilities
Establishes and maintains smooth operation of computer systems (to include operating systems, software and hardware) in networked or stand-alone configurations, maintains system integrity, and upgrades systems and/or servers as required. May create and document new methods supporting network/system operations and implement changes to procedures. Consults with support teams, help desks, customers and other technical staff in the resolution of problems, coordinates and performs operation and/or maintenance activities for networks/servers, identifies recurring problems and recommends steps to reduce the severity or frequency of problems. May plan for the transition of development and/or production environments to new technologies, utilize system software to monitor the performance of system files, manage system data to maintain performance efficiencies and/or study system requirements to determine proper server installation methods and procedures.
Day to day responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead engineering and modernization efforts for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments supporting DoD missions, driving requirements analysis, solution design, and lifecycle documentation in alignment with DoD 5000.02 processes.
  • Engineer, manage, and optimize enterprise VDI platforms VMware Horizon 2512, with hands-on expertise in image creation, application layering, profile management, and performance tuning.
  • Administer and enhance VDI components, including Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM), App Volumes, Instant Clone Pools, FSLogix for O365, and associated user experience optimization tools.
  • Troubleshoot complex VDI issues, including pool configuration changes, vCenter related desktop failures, image related defects, and performance degradation across distributed environments. Maintain and update VDI Gold Images, executing monthly patch cycles, application updates, and secure baseline enforcement to ensure consistent, mission-ready desktop delivery.
  • Ensure technical integrity and compliance of all VDI engineering deliverables across ISO/IEC 15288 Technical, Enterprise, and Agreement process areas.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including VDI architecture diagrams, system design documents, engineering plans, requirements specifications, and interface control documents.
  • Ensure cybersecurity, regulatory, and configuration compliance, including STIG implementation, RMF artifact development, secure baseline management, and continuous monitoring of VDI systems.

Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
High School with 9+ years (or commensurate experience)
  • Clearance Required: Secret
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance

In addition to the overall experience, Five (5) years of experience should be supporting systems engineering and/or Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) experience.
Commensurate experience is outlined for personnel who do not have 9+ years of experience:
Bachelors degree and 8 years of IT experience
Masters degree and 6 years of IT experience
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Hands-on expertise with enterprise VDI platforms such as VMware Horizon (including Horizon 2512), ESXi, vCenter, and enterprise storage technologies.
  • Experience with cloud-based or hybrid VDI solutions, systems modeling, automation frameworks, and enterprise monitoring/observability tools.
  • Familiarity with RMF, STIGs, secure baseline management, and cybersecurity compliance requirements for virtualized and distributed environments.
  • Working knowledge of adjacent technical domains such as networking, Active Directory, scripting/automation (PowerShell, Python), endpoint management, or identity services.
  • Experience with key VDI ecosystem components including Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM), App Volumes, Instant Clone Pools, FSLogix for O365, VDI Gold Image management, and troubleshooting vCenter-related desktop issues.
  • Professional certifications such as VCP-DT, INCOSE CSEP/ESEP, DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II, ITIL Foundation, PMP, or Agile certifications.
  • Experience working within a DoD Combatant Command (e.g., SOUTHCOM, NORTHCOM, CENTCOM, CYBERCOM, INDOPACOM, EUCOM, AFRICOM, STRATCOM, TRANSCOM, SOCOM, SPACECOM) or a Service Component.
