Technology & Systems Department

The Technology & Systems department drives technological innovation for the company and advances the technology strategy to support global growth. This includes IT, Software Development, OT / Automation Systems, and business process improvement. At Vantage, we are very hands-on. In most cases, we specify, purchase, configure, and maintain all networking and server hardware. We also work closely with partner VARs to learn about the latest technology changes, so we can make informed purchase decisions. The Technology & Systems department participates in designing each of our new data center building's networking infrastructure, including but not limited to diverse pathways connecting to carriers, meet-me room hosting (rack, cabs, ladders, cross-connect panels...), wireless AP coverage, etc.

We rely on extreme collaboration with Sales, Construction, Operations, and Corporate Functions to drive simplification andestablishglobal standards with continuous improvement and speed to value. Position Overview

This role will be basedonsitein Port Washington, WI.

The IT Infrastructure Engineer is a hands-on technical leader responsible for designing, deploying, and supporting the IT infrastructure that underpins Vantage Data Centers' mission-critical operations across North America. Partnering closely with Construction, Operations, and Engineering teams, this role delivers fault-tolerant network, compute, and virtualization solutions for new builds and existing sites, ensuring every facility comes online on time, on budget, and to Vantage's standards for reliability, security, and performance. The engineer provides professional technical support to internal and external customers, resolves complex hardware and software issues, and operates in alignment with company policies, ITIL-based processes, and predefined SLAs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Serve as the domain expert representing the Mission Critical Operations organization on all data center construction and expansion projects.

  • Design, implement, and maintain fault-tolerant, highly available IT networks leveraging Cisco, Fortinet, and Arista platforms, including routing, switching, firewalls, segmentation, and software-defined networking (SDN) leaf-spine fabrics.

  • Architect, build, and harden virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere/ESXi) along with Windows and Linux server environments to support mission-critical workloads.

  • Coordinate with Construction Project Managers and General Contractors to maintain schedule commitments, communicate progress, and resolve site readiness blockers.

  • Work under limited supervision, both independently and within a team environment.

  • Manage multiple concurrent one-time and ongoing projects, balancing competing priorities while meeting quality, cost, and schedule targets.

  • Respond to safety, security, and emergency situations; uphold a safe, secure, and compliant work environment at all times.

  • Apply sound judgment to organize workflow, adapt to shifting priorities, and make informed decisions in a dynamic operational environment.

  • Engage frequently with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as external vendors, partners, and customers, to drive aligned outcomes.

Duties

  • Provide professional mentorship and specialist advice to the business on systems and project matters, ensuring projects are initiated accurately and appropriate levels of governance are applied throughout the lifecycle.

  • Collaborate with internal partners and stakeholders to design and deliver technology solutions that align with project objectives, operational standards, and customer requirements.

  • Develop business cases, whole-life cost analyses, and feasibility proposals that frame investment vs. risk and align with business objectives.

  • Drive projects to stay within budget and schedule, identifying and planning the effective use of internal and external resources.

  • Manage incidents, problems, software defects, and change requests through ITIL-aligned processes, ensuring timely resolution and stakeholder communication.

  • Identify opportunities to evolve systems to meet business requirements, leveraging existing platform functionality or new development where appropriate.

  • Support the Senior Manager and Lead Engineer, Information Technology, in delivering services essential to the success of the business and the reliability of customer-facing operations.

  • Handle additional duties as assigned by Management.

JobRequirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.

  • Minimum of five (7) years of progressive experience deploying and supporting IT infrastructure in data center, mission-critical, or comparable environments.

  • Demonstrated technical proficiency across Windows Server and Desktop, Active Directory, VMware vSphere/ESXi, Microsoft 365, Cisco, Fortinet, and Arista networking and firewalls, Arista EOS and software-defined networking (SDN), enterprise storage and backup technologies, and end-to-end LAN/WAN networking.

  • Working knowledge of ITIL processes (incident, problem, and change management) and experience operating within structured IT service management frameworks.

  • Hands-on experience deploying IT services to new construction sites, including coordination with general contractors, low-voltage vendors, and commissioning teams.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear documentation and present technical content to non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities, and deliver under tight deadlines.

  • May be required to complete formal training or certification in an area of specialization.

  • Available to support after-hours maintenance windows, on-call rotations, and emergency response as required by operational demands.

  • Must possess reliable transportation to report to work for scheduled shifts and emergency callouts.

  • Travel is expected to be less than 20%, primarily for site deployments, project milestones, and occasional training.

  • Successful completion of a background check is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Fortinet NSE, VMware VCP, Microsoft Azure/Microsoft 365 certifications, or ITIL Foundation.

  • Prior experience in a hyperscale or colocation data center environment supporting customer-facing SLAs.

  • Hands-on experience with Arista software-defined networking, including Arista EOS, CloudVision, and EVPN/VXLAN leaf-spine fabric design; Arista certification (e.g., ACE) preferred.

  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, scripting, or automation tooling (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Ansible, Terraform).

  • Exposure to operational technology (OT), building management systems, or critical infrastructure networks.

  • Formal project management training or certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Agile/Scrum).Ability to work in an active construction and data center environment, including exposure to noise, varied temperatures, and structured access controls.

  • Salary Range: $106,000- $115,000 + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)
