Job Description
The Executive Director, IT R&D will oversee an IT organization that drives the standard and compliant delivery of IT R&D support and services. Key objectives for this role will be to establish technology delivery standards for the R&D function based on business need. The role will be responsible to plan, direct, and manage the IT solutions for Clinical, Drug Safety, Regulatory, Medical Affairs and the Research and Development areas within Alkermes and provide leadership and knowledge empowerment for team members and mature the IT R&D services within the company.
This role will be a key member of the IT Senior Leadership Team and will be the primary liaison between various internal and external IT organizations and the previously mentioned Alkermes functional areas. This position will report to the Chief Information Officer (CIO).
This role will work a weekly hybrid office schedule in our Waltham location.
Responsibilities
Job Description:
  • Provide leadership, prioritization, and guidance for R&D IT initiatives for the R&D business functions (Clinical, Drug Safety, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Research and Development) in the execution and support of IT solutions/enhancements to enable the achievement of company goals.
  • Ensure robust application support to maintain stable, reliable, secure, compliant, and scalable R&D IT solutions.
  • Manage internal management staff to deliver key R&D IT services and grow/develop employees.
  • Manage and optimize resources within the R&D IT team (direct reports, contractors, consultants and vendors).
  • Oversee relationships with key R&D IT vendors to ensure services meet business needs.
  • Enhance and integrate R&D business function applications across the R&D organization.
  • Ensure processes are in place for the R&D IT team to manage and support key R&D IT solutions and services.
  • Drive and facilitate effective collaboration and communication across the IT Organization and among key business stakeholders
  • Build and foster effective relationships between the business, external service providers and IT.
  • Partner with other global and local IT managers to ensure alignment and coordination of IT best practices for all Alkermes users.
  • Manage project risk processes in a timely manner to ensure that adverse outcomes are minimized.
  • Introduce best practice and process improvement ideas across the R&D business functions.
  • Ensure R&D IT teams adhere to Federal and Local regulations and Alkermes policies.
  • Manage communications across IT management and staff personnel to ensure effective collection and dissemination of R&D IT initiatives.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications/Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred
  • 15+ years of technology leadership experience with progressively increasing responsibilities.
  • 5+ years of experience championing organizational change, leading IT initiatives, products, services, or interactions preferred
  • 5+ years of experience overseeing IT projects, programs and IT support
  • Experience working directly with R&D employees and implementing R&D solutions within a global pharmaceutical company.
  • Experience managing R&D vendor relationships within pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee several complex projects simultaneously while utilizing effective management processes for direct reports.
  • Strong pharmaceutical R&D background with demonstrated capabilities in leading a highly skilled IT team through in the implementation of R&D IT solutions.
  • Graduate degree or MBA/MS degree desired.

Preferred Qualifications/Personal Attributes:
  • Ability to lead R&D IT organizations and related business functions through complex activities and solution implementations.
  • Ability to build strong, collaborative partnerships with senior leaders across R&D, IT, Enterprise Data Management, and Enterprise AI.
  • Accountable leader that can effectively oversee simultaneous work priorities across R&D, IT and other cross-functional organizations, in various geographies.
  • Ability to initiate, persuade, motivate, and influence project stakeholders and internal/external team members to desired and mutually-beneficial outcomes.
  • Effective leadership skills in meeting team commitments and staff development.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Effective risk analysis and stakeholder facilitation to reach timely decisions.
  • Strong conflict management, vendor management, and prioritization skills.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $275,000 to $310,000. In addition, this position is eligible for an annual performance pay bonus.
