DescriptionDo Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring an adjunct instructor of Industrial Systems Technology. The essential functions of the position include delivering instruction, maintaining attendance records, developing consistent course evaluation policies, communicating course expectations to students, filing grade reports, and ensuring a safe instructional environment.
Examples of Duties- Meet with class for assigned hours and deliver relevant instruction in lecture and laboratory settings as appropriate; file appropriate class cancellation forms as needed when class cannot meet, scheduling make-up work or meetings consistent with college policy.
- Maintain class electronic attendance records in a timely fashion.
- Develop and maintain a consistent policy for course evaluation (grading).
- Communicate course expectations to students in a consistent and understandable manner, e.g., by developing a syllabus consistent with college policies.
- Respond to student questions and complaints as appropriate, and in a manner consistent with college policies.
- File electronic grade reports in a timely fashion, consistent with deadlines.
- Maintain course records as needed for documentation of grading and for use in tracking of student learning outcomes as needed.
- Assist in maintenance of safe and orderly instructional spaces, tools, and laboratory equipment.
- Incorporate industrial safety and preventive maintenance practices into all instructional activities.
Minimum QualificationsAssociate Degree in Industrial Systems Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant job experience.
Work Experience: At least two years of work experience in industrial systems maintenance, troubleshooting, or a related field involving pumps and piping systems, industrial equipment, and safety practices.
Supplemental Information- Excellent understanding of scientific and technical principles relevant to industrial systems, including mechanical, electrical, and fluid power fundamentals.
- Ability to plan, conduct, and assess classroom and laboratory instructional activities related to industrial systems, including pumps and piping, industrial equipment troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and safety.
- Ability to use a laser alignment tool to do alignments between a pump and motor.
- Knowledge and understanding of industrial processes, mechanical systems, and equipment operation within manufacturing or processing environments.
- Demonstrated understanding of industrial safety standards, including lockout/tagout, PPE, and hazard recognition.
- Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and effective oral and written communication/public relation skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills related to real-world industrial scenarios.
- Ability to make presentations to classroom audiences at an appropriate level using hands-on demonstrations and applied learning.
- Computer skills necessary for maintenance of course records, digital instruction, and communication with students and program/departmental faculty and staff.
- Personal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Understanding of the mission, goals, and objectives of the college.
