Description We're Hiring. Information Systems Technician Join Our Team. The City is seeking a customer-focused and technically skilled Information Systems Technician to join our Information Systems team.
In this role, you'll provide hands-on technical support for a wide range of technology systems that keep City operations running efficiently. From maintaining computer hardware and software to supporting network infrastructure, telecommunications, mobile devices, and enterprise applications, you'll play a key role in delivering exceptional technology services to City departments. This position also provides specialized support to our Police and Fire Departments, assisting with public safety technology such as mobile computing, body-worn camera systems, digital evidence platforms, Emergency Operations Center (EOC) technology, and other mission-critical systems.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical duties related to the installation, configuration, maintenance, support, and operation of computer systems, network infrastructure, software applications, telecommunications systems, and related technology equipment. Provides technical assistance and customer support to City staff, including Police and Fire personnel, and assists with technology projects, system upgrades, and operational support functions.
Performs related duties as assigned. General supervision is provided by the Information Systems Specialist or designee. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a motivated IT professional with strong technical knowledge, outstanding customer service skills, and a passion for problem-solving.
They thrive in a collaborative environment, communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users, and can confidently troubleshoot a variety of hardware, software, networking, and systems issues. Successful candidates will possess: Experience supporting enterprise-level computer systems, networks, and technology infrastructure. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Azure, cloud technologies, networking, and cybersecurity best practices.
The ability to install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot computers, mobile devices, telecommunications equipment, and related technology. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments while providing excellent customer service. The initiative to work independently while collaborating effectively with coworkers, vendors, and City departments.
A commitment to maintaining confidentiality, exercising sound judgment, and responding to operational technology needs, including occasional after-hours support. Experience supporting public safety technology within a municipal environment is highly desirable but not required. Examples of Duties Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair computer hardware, software, and peripheral equipment.
Assisting end users regarding computer systems, mobile devices, applications, and technology-related issues. Analyze and resolve hardware, software, network, connectivity, and system-related problems. Provide user training and guidance regarding approved hardware, software, and technology procedures.
Assist with the maintenance and support of wireless systems, telecommunications equipment, and related technology resources. Perform system monitoring, maintenance, and updates. Document technical support requests, inventory records, procedures, and system changes.
Assist with the implementation, deployment, and support of technology projects and system upgrades. Support audiovisual systems, printers, mobile computing devices, cameras, and other specialized technology equipment as assigned. Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and outside agencies regarding technology-related services and support.
Maintain effective working relationships with City staff and departments. Perform related duties as assigned. When Assigned to Public Safety Depending on assignment, additional duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide technical support, maintenance, and troubleshooting for Police and Fire Department computer systems, applications, mobile devices, in-vehicle technology, body-worn camera systems, digital evidence systems, and other public safety technology.
Install, configure, maintain, and support specialized law enforcement hardware and software; assist personnel with system functionality and provide user guidance and training as needed. Assist with the implementation, testing, maintenance, and documentation of public safety technology systems to ensure operational readiness and minimize service interruptions. Support technology used within the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), including periodic testing, software updates, and equipment verification to ensure systems are operational during emergency activations.
Participate in the planning, deployment, and support of new public safety technology projects and assist with evaluating hardware, software, and vendor-provided solutions. Prepare and maintain technical documentation, equipment inventories, and system configuration records related to Police and Fire Department technology. Typical Qualifications Knowledge of: Principles, practices, and methods of information technology systems, technical support, and customer service.
Microsoft Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365 applications, Active Directory, Azure, cloud-based technologies, virtualization platforms, and related enterprise technologies. Computer hardware, software, peripheral equipment, telecommunications systems, and network infrastructure. Principles and practices of administering and supporting computer systems, network infrastructure, and related technology resources.
Wired and wireless networking concepts, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems, network security principles, authentication methods, encryption, and cybersecurity best practices. Enterprise applications, system administration, backup and recovery procedures, and technology lifecycle management. Methods of evaluating technology solutions, developing technical recommendations, preparing specifications, and implementing cost-effective solutions to meet City needs.
Modern office practices, business applications, and standard administrative procedures. Ability to: Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot computer hardware, software, network infrastructure, telecommunications systems, and related technology equipment. Analyze technical problems, identify appropriate solutions, and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.
Provide effective customer service and technical guidance in support of the City. Prioritize multiple assignments, organize workload effectively, and respond to changing operational needs. Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with City staff, vendors, contractors, and the public.
Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Research, evaluate, and recommend technology solutions to improve operational efficiency and support City business objectives. Work independently and collaboratively while exercising sound judgment and maintaining confidentiality.
Respond to technology-related emergencies and perform work outside of normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as operational needs require. EXPERIENCE: Two years of progressively responsible experience involving information technology technician support with some network or systems, preferably in public safety or a municipal enterprise-level environment. EDUCATION: Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in information systems, information technology, computer science, and/or related field.OR Any combination of progressively responsible experience as an Information Technology Technician, IT Specialist, and IT Analyst at an enterprise system level or in a public safety or municipal environment with relevant certifications to perform the abovementioned duties
Licenses: Possession of a valid California State Class C driver's license.
