Job description

Major Responsibilities:
  • Directs security and public safety operations to protect people, information, and property in all types of locations. Facilitates the provision of a safe environment for patients, visitors, physicians and associates. Ensures the implementation of the Security and Public Safety Service Level Agreement. Monitors the physical security, public safety, and parking programs across all types of operating units and sites in the assigned region to ensure compliance with in accordance with Departmental strategic goals, policies, procedures, and guidelines.?
  • Focuses on internal customers. Identifies needs, develops relationships, develops and implements solutions, and collaborates to promote the successes of assigned Public Safety Departments. Analyzes service needs and coordinates prioritized services to meet the needs of the site. Meets with site and program leadership on a scheduled basis to seek feedback and address concerns. Researches, collaborates, and drafts Security, Public Safety and Parking policies and procedures that are feasible for all sites. Directs and monitors the implementation of published policies and ensures reliable compliance. Ensures accreditation and regulatory standards are achieved and maintained continuously.?
  • Works with the senior security executive and other leaders to analyze and justify annual operating budgets. Monitors budget execution, reviews monthly operating expense budgets. Provides variance reports.?
  • Articulates the vision of the Security and Public Safety Department to team members. Ensures the requirements are understood, supervised, and accomplished. Demonstrates commitment to the vision and a spirit of enthusiasm for achieving its goals. Translates the vision for staff and encourages their engagement. Collaborates and communicates across the assigned sites and between team members and ensures that the team achieves stated goals and objectives.?
  • Monitors tactical operations and principles, ensuring they complement technical systems to secure people, information, and property without undue restriction of organizational operations.? Conducts security and operational risk assessments. Monitors communication and integration with the Security Command Centers.?
  • In collaboration with the corporate training team, directs the development and training of Public Safety and Parking teams that are committed to the values of Advocate Aurora Health and prepared to perform their duties in an exemplary manner. Facilitates effective, well trained teams that are tactically and technically proficient.
  • Develops comprehensive competency models for all levels of Public Safety and Parking staff. Develops and formats standardized content to ensure reliable training quality. Monitors and enforces Public Safety and Parking staff training and competency assessments and documentation.
  • Leads the implementation of security standards, practices, and priorities to increase effectiveness and reliability. Responsible for productivity levels and standards to ensure optimal staff and resource utilization. Supports the Workplace Violence prevention program.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.
  • Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
  • A valid drivers license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Education Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.

Experience Required:
  • Typical requires 7 years of experience in public safety, security, or law enforcement department. Typically requires 3 years of management experience in public safety, security, or law enforcement department.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Expert knowledge in security and public safety practices, procedures, and state/federal compliance. ?
  • Effective written and oral communication, general administrative and leadership skills.?
  • Self-directed, possess critical thinking and analytical skills, conduct complex investigations.?
  • Excellent word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills.?
  • Working knowledge of security systems such as video surveillance, access control, pediatric abduction alarm systems, etc.?
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgement and sound reasoning while maintaining calm, courteous, and tactful demeanor in dealing with team members, patients, and visitors.?
  • Demonstrated experience in quickly and accurately assessing dangerous and stressful situations and taking appropriate action.?

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • This position requires travel, therefore, will be exposed to weather and road conditions.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, and radiation hazards.?
  • ?Protective clothing must be worn as necessary.?
