Job description

Beloit Memorial Hospital is hiring a Sterile Processing Technician at Beloit Memorial Hospital in Beloit, WI.

  • Shift: 3rd
  • Schedule: 9p-5:30a
  • Hours per week:40 hours per week
  • Benefits Status: Benefits Eligible
  • Department: Sterile Processing Technician

The Sterile Processing Technician maintains recommended standards for set assembly, decontamination, inspection, containerizing and sterilizing surgical instruments in an accurate and timely manner. The Sterile Processing Technician performs sterilization, assembly and storage of medical supplies and equipment.

The Sterile Processing Technician will:

  • Maintains and orders supplies from storeroom as needed for packaging and keeps shelves stocked
  • Sends equipment in need of repair to the proper department
  • Packages various items according to AAMI standards
  • Performs miscellaneous cleaning duties as assigned
  • Maintains sterilization records as indicated by policy
  • Completes other assigned job duties
  • Decontamination Side:
  • Handles hazardous waste properly and follows procedures.
  • Operates sonic and washer disinfecting equipment
  • Uses various chemicals to clean items properly
  • Follows the correct techniques in the care, handling and cleaning of instruments and items.
  • Performs miscellaneous cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Follows manufacturer's instructions carefully when performing duties.
  • Processing Side:
  • Uses various methods of sterilization in processing items.
  • Carefully cleans the sterilizing equipment and troubleshoots problems.
  • Assembles trays of instruments for various departments.
  • Maintains accurate records for each sterilization load.
  • Uses STERRAD according to manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Cleans the department as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be certified within 6 months of hire date
  • Previous Experience Desired: One year of Sterile Processing, OR Room Procedure Support Technician or Surgical Tech experience required.
  • Personal Protective equipment required; such as, goggles, mask, gloves and gown.
  • Must adhere to established hospital and Sterile Processing Department policies, rules and regulations.
  • Maintains ethical conduct and keeps confidential personal and medical information about patients.
