Job description

Job Title: License-Eligible Therapist/Counselor
Employment Type: W-2 Part-Time
Location: Remote (U.S.)
Scheduling & Availability (ET): Shifts are scheduled within 7:00 AM-8:00 PM, 7 days/week. You will not work all hours-your weekly schedule will be built within this window based on client needs and your availability, with most sessions typically after school.

  • School year: must be able to accommodate sessions in 7:00-9:30 AM and 4:00-8:00 PM windows
  • Summer: sessions may be scheduled 7:00 AM-7:00 PM (flexible)
  • Clinicians: weekly Thursday team meeting 9:00 AM or 12:00 PM (based on your availability) + Week 1 onboarding at 9:00 AM
  • Occasional holidays as needed
  • Clinicians are required to maintain a minimum of 15 client hours per week
Compensation:
  • $40-$55/hr for scheduled client sessions (rate based on experience/credentials)
  • $25/hr for training and administrative (non-clinical) time

Role Overview:
VPM is seeking License-Eligible Therapists to provide short-term, school-based tele-therapy to K-12 students across Virginia through a state-funded initiative in partnership with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).
This position focuses on delivering culturally responsive, evidence-based therapeutic services through a secure, HIPAA- and FERPA-compliant virtual platform. Therapists will play an essential role in expanding access to care for students regardless of insurance coverage, immigration status, or language barriers.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
We are seeking compassionate, skilled clinicians who are:

Residents will receive supervision toward licensure, while licensed clinicians will have opportunities for leadership, school consultation, and program development within our expanding clinical framework.
Key responsibilities include but limited to:
Direct Client Care
  • Deliver individual tele-therapy sessions for K-12 students referred by participating schools
  • Utilize short-term, evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, and solution-focused therapy
  • Address a range of concerns including anxiety, grief, trauma, academic stress, and family or peer conflict
  • Provide services to diverse student populations, including multilingual learners and those without insurance
Collaboration & Communication
  • Coordinate with school counselors, family resource managers, and administrative teams
  • Engage in family outreach when appropriate to promote continuity of care
  • Participate in case consultations, supervision, and ongoing professional development
  • Maintain responsive and professional communication with both school and internal VPM partners
Documentation & Compliance
  • Complete all clinical documentation (intake, progress, and discharge notes) within 48 hours
  • Ensure compliance with all licensure board requirements, HIPAA, FERPA, and program-specific standards
  • Contribute to quarterly outcomes reporting through standardized metrics and case summaries
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Preferred Experience:
Licensure
  • License-eligible in Virginia as LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or equivalent
  • Residents must be actively pursuing licensure and eligible for clinical supervision
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience working with children, adolescents, or school-aged youth
  • Prior experience in school-based therapy, community mental health, or tele-health preferred
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and crisis response a plus
Skills & Competencies
  • Proficiency in evidence-based interventions (CBT, DBT, solution-focused, narrative therapy)
  • Strong time management, organization, and documentation skills
  • Commitment to culturally responsive, strengths-based, and trauma-informed care
  • Self-directed with strong virtual presence and professionalism in remote settings
Professional Communication & Attendance (Essential Function)
Reliable communication and attendance are essential job responsibilities. Team members must:
  • Attend required onboarding, internal meetings, supervision sessions, and trainings (as applicable)
  • Notify the team as soon as possible regarding delays, absences, or scheduling conflicts
  • Maintain timely, professional communication during scheduled work hours
  • Uphold remote-work standards, including a private workspace and reliable internet connection

  • Reliable high-speed internet and ability to use required systems/tools
  • Comfort working independently while staying connected through remote collaboration
