The Field Operations Technician II is a mid-level role responsible for independently performing fiber optic installation, maintenance, and service activities. This position requires solid technical proficiency, the ability to execute standard installations and troubleshooting with minimal supervision, and a growing capability to support complex work and mentor junior technicians.
The Field Operations Technician II plays a critical role in ensuring quality, efficiency, and adherence to engineering and operational standards in field operations.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform installation, testing, and turn-up of fiber optic systems and related network equipment with minimal supervision
  • Execute installation and service work in alignment with company standards and engineering designs
  • Perform fiber routing, dressing, labeling, and basic splicing as required
  • Conduct fiber testing using tools such as power meters and OTDRs, and accurately interpret results for standard scenarios
  • Troubleshoot and resolve routine network and installation issues, escalating complex problems as needed
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and work orders
  • Ensure all installations meet quality standards, including proper documentation, photos, and test results
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed in applicable systems
  • Support inventory control, including tracking and handling of materials and serialized equipment
  • Adhere to all safety requirements and promote safe work practices on-site
  • Assist in training and guiding Technician I team members
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, logistics, NCC, etc.) to ensure successful job completion
  • Ability to troubleshoot and handle maintenance of various types of equipment (i.e. Ciena, Nokia, Infinera, Juniper, Cisco)

Qualifications:
  • Field-based role requiring travel to job sites
  • Work in varied environments (indoor, outdoor, heights, confined spaces)
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and meet physical job requirements
  • May require evening, weekend, and on-call support
  • The assigned shift may vary based on needs of the business and typically includes an "On-Call" shift rotation
  • Experience with installing, testing or turning up a variety of telecommunications equipment including SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP or Ethernet based equipment required
    • OTDR experience preferred
    • DC Power experience preferred
    • Up to 1G, 10G, 100G, 400G
  • Circuit testing experience, preferred
    • RFC2544, RFC6349 Truespeed, iPerf, Y.1564 preferred

Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required
  • Technical training or certification in telecommunications, electronics, or related field, preferred
  • 2-4+ years of experience in fiber optic installation, maintenance, or related technical field
  • Working knowledge of fiber optic systems, cabling, and network infrastructure
  • Experience using basic fiber testing equipment (e.g., power meter, OTDR)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on standard installations and service tasks
  • Prior experience supporting or mentoring junior technicians, preferred

Estimated base pay range: $19.52 - $30.00 USD/hour
The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Non- sales roles may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive plan. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan.
Additionally, this position may be eligible for certain benefits, such as health insurance, life insurance, disability retirement plans, paid time off.
