Job description

Job Summary:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a Long-Term Care (LTC) setting provides direct patient care to residents, assisting with daily living activities and supporting nursing staff. This role involves helping with ambulation, feeding, hygiene, skin care, and monitoring patient conditions. The CNA works closely with the care team to ensure comfort, safety, and quality care for residents in a 23-bed facility.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist residents with ambulation, feeding, turning, and repositioning to prevent pressure injuries.
  • Perform hygiene care including bed baths, mouth care, perineal care, shaving, shower assistance, and skin care.
  • Manage incontinence care including use of bedpans, urinals, and bedside commodes.
  • Measure and record vital signs, fluid intake/output, weight, and drain output accurately.
  • Assist with pressure injury prevention by using appropriate equipment such as specialty beds, antiembolic stockings, heel and elbow protectors.
  • Operate and maintain equipment including hospital beds, Hoyer lifts, oxygen tanks, stretchers, and wheelchairs.
  • Follow isolation precautions and properly don and remove PPE to maintain infection control.
  • Assist with specimen collection, labeling, and transport as required.
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance of patient care equipment.
  • Report changes in patient condition promptly to licensed nursing staff.
  • Assist with bed linen changes, including occupied and unoccupied beds, and bed shampooing.
  • Respond to call lights and support patient comfort and safety needs.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at hire.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a long-term care or similar healthcare setting.
  • Ability to assist with patient mobility and daily living activities safely.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices and proper PPE use.
  • Strong communication skills to report patient status and collaborate with healthcare team.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience with specialized equipment such as Hoyer lifts, specialty beds, and oxygen therapy equipment.
  • Familiarity with pressure injury prevention techniques.
  • Previous experience in LTC or similar patient care environments.
Special Considerations:
  • Float coverage is required.
  • Weekend coverage every other weekend (EOW).
  • Patient ratio approximately 1 CNA to 10 patients during days, weekends, and nights.
  • Must be able to work in a long-term care environment with frail and elderly patients.
  • Adherence to isolation precautions and infection control protocols is mandatory.
Scheduling:
  • Work schedule includes day, weekend, and night shifts as assigned.
  • Shifts and coverage are determined based on facility needs, including float and weekend rotation.
